Clipper Aquatic Herbicide, manufactured by Valent, is a versatile contact herbicide that selectively controls invasive floating and submerged weeds in aquatic environments.

This specially formulated product contains the active ingredient flumioxazin 51%, which gets rid of aquatic weeds like duckweed or water lettuce by interfering and halting the plants’ production of chlorophyll.

Clipper Aquatic Herbicide is an effective aquatic herbicide that quickly dissolves in water for easier and less mess during application. Plus, it also avoids sediment buildup in water leading to reduced toxicity in water.

Tools Needed

You will need a separate mixing container or sprayer tank to mix the product in. It may be applied with a backpack sprayer, hand held sprayer, airboat, helicopter, airplane, or a spray rig.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Clipper Aquatic Herbicide you will need to treat your waterbody. To do this, calculate the surface area by measuring (in feet) the surface length and the width and then dividing by 43,560 to get the surface acreage. To treat the surface of water bodies with a water depth greater or less than 3 feet as a surface spray use the rate of 6 to 12 oz. of Clipper Herbicide in 30 gallons of water per surface acre. Refer to the label for specific application rates and restrictions. Do not retreat the same section of water with this product more than 6 times per year or exceed 400 ppb of product during any one application.
  • Step 2: While wearing gloves, mix the proper amount of Clipper Aquatic Herbicide with water that has a pH of 5 to 7. If pH is higher than 7, use an appropriate buffer to reduce pH to desirable range. Fill the sprayer tank with half of the amount of clean water, add the measured amount of product, then fill with the remaining of half water. Throghout this entre process maintain continual agitation to ensure the product has been mixed. Apply Clipper Herbicide within 12 hours of mixing.
  • Step 3: Apply Clipper Aquatic Herbicide as a broadcast spray to all areas of water bodies where weeds exists. If a second application is needed, it is recommended that a treatment be made once the return of these weeds is first observed, but no sooner than 28 days after the last treatment. In areas with dense weed vegetation, treat only 1/2 of the water body at one time and wait 10-14 days before treating the remaining area.
