Chopper Gen2 Herbicide, manufactured by BASF, is a next-generation post-emergent herbicide that brings exceptional residual control, low-odor application, and powerful vegetation management in forestry sites.

Designed for tough site prep and mid‑rotation hardwood release, this herbicide offers a broader application window from leaf‑on to leaf‑off and consistently performs even under unpredictable weather, thanks to its superior rainfastness. Chopper Gen2 Herbicide is the only herbicide in its class with Transport Technology. This innovation accelerates uptake starting within 2 hours, making the product more rainfast and effective, even against resistant hardwoods.

Chopper Gen2 Herbicide specialized formulation provides extended, reliable vegetation control, making it ideal for site preparation, mid-rotation release, and invasive species management in forest environments. Because it’s systemic, this product travels throughout the entire plant down to the roots. That means when you kill the plant, you kill it completely, preventing regrowth. By removing invasive hardwoods, Chopper Gen2 Herbicide lets sunlight penetrate the forest floor, encouraging native grasses, brambles, and legumes that benefit wildlife.

Tools Needed

A backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, spray rig, brush, injection equipment, hatchet, or machete will be needed.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Chopper Gen2 Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For tree-injection applications, apply 1 mL of solution at each injection site. Make at least one injection cut for every three inches of diameter at breast height (dbh) on the target tree. To prepare a dilute solution for stump and cut treatments, mix 8 to 12 fluid ounces of product with one gallon of water. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
  • Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, and then pour in the remaining half of water into the tank. Close the lid and shake until well-mixed.
  • Step 3: For cut and stump treatments, after cutting the tree close to ground level, immediately apply the herbicide mix directly to the cambium ring (just inside the bark).

Where to Use

Chopper Gen2 Herbicide is only for forestry sites.

When to Use

Applications can be made at any time of the year except during periods of heavy sap flow in the spring. Tree injection and cut-stem treatments are most effective in late summer and early fall.

Safety Information

Chopper Gen2 Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated area until the spray has dried.

Special Considerations

Injury may occur to nontarget or desirable woody plants if they extend from the same root system or their root systems are grafted to those of the treated tree.

Time to KillTreated plants stop growing soon after herbicide application. Chlorosis first appears in the youngest leaf tissue. In perennials, the herbicide is translocated into the roots, thus preventing resprouting. Chlorosis and tissue necrosis may not be apparent in some species for several weeks after application. Woody plants, brush, and trees may not display the full extent of herbicide control until several months following application.
