Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer, manufactured by United Phosphorous, is a long-term pre-emergent herbicide with some early post-emergent control on a wide range of weeds in orchards, nurseries, and more.

This non-selective herbicide is powered by the active ingredient dichlobenil 4%, which works to form a protective barrier for 4-6 months to even a year against annual and perennial weeds.

Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer is great for bare-ground weed control applications where weeds are competing with desirable agricultural crops or new areas need to be planted for increased crop yields. Because of its long-term rate it ensures better crop growth rates with minimal applications, making it a cost-effective option.

Tools Needed

To apply Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer, you will need to use a push spreader, broadcast spreader, or handheld spreader.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acerage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). To make applications in apple, cherry, grape, pear, or filbert orchards and nurseries, use 100-150 lbs. of Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer per acre for annual weed control or use 150 lbs. of product per acre to control perennial weeds. To treat bushberries orchards and nurseries, use 150 lbs. of product per acre. For caneberries orchards and nurseries, apply 100 lbs. of product per acre. For rhubarb sites, apply 50 lbs. of product per acre. For cranberries, use 100 lbs. of product per acre. For woody ornamental and shelterbelts sites (those that are established and in nurseries), use 100-150 lbs. of product per acre. For control of perennial weeds in woody ornamental and shelterbeds sites (those that are established and in nurseries), apply 150-200 lbs. of product per acre. Do not apply more than 150 lbs. of product per acre on Azalea, Boxwood, Euonymus, Forsythia, Heather, Holly, Ivy, Lilac, Leucothoe or plantings less than 1 year old.
  • Step 2: Calibrate your spreader to the proper settings then load the proper amount of Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer into it.
  • Step 3: Spread the Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer granules evenly across the soil surface. Do not allow granules to stick to foliage or to accumulate at the soil line around the base of the desired foliage. After spreading the granules push them into the soil by thoroughly watering them in with 1/2 to 1 inch of irrigation.

Where to Use

Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer can be used in fruit and nut orchards and nurseries, woody ornamentals and shelterbelts, hybrid cottonwood and poplar plantations and stoolbeds, and non-crop areas.

Non-crop areas such as around buildings and structures, around fences, industrial areas, recreational areas, and under containerized nursery stock.

Do not use on “St. Lucie fine sand,” “Arzell fine sand” or other light, sandy soil, or in enclosed structures.

When to Use

Apply Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer in early spring when weeds are still dormant and annual weeds have not started to germinate or in late fall after crop has been harvested. Late fall applications should be done from November 15 to February 15.

Do not plant or transplant into treated soil.

Do not apply until 6 months after rooting of cuttings in the field, or after planting rooted cuttings for woody ornamentals and shelterbelts.

Safety Information

Casoron 4G Fine Weed and Grass Killer is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying this product.
