Bonide Hydrated Lime
Bonide Hydrated Lime is a finely ground powder that greatly improves the soil structure of lawns, gardens, and potted plants by neutralizing the soil acidity and supplying calcium.
11/04/25
Bonide Hydrated Lime, manufactured by Bonide, is a trusted and effective solution for gardeners and homeowners seeking to optimize the soil of lawns, gardens, and potted plants for optimal stronger and beautiful bloomage.
Derived from calcium hydroxide and other ingredients, this product is faster-acting than other traditional agricultural lime, making it an superb choice for rapid soil adjustments. By neutralizing acidic and alkalinity soil, this product helps unlock essential nutrients that plants need for healthy growth, promoting better root development and increased productivity.
Bonide Hydrated Lime fine powder design ensures fast absorption of other nutrients available in the soil, resulting in more consistent bloomage, plant health, and possible disease growth.
Tools Needed
You will need a chemical-purpose tablespoon to treat potted plants or a handheld spreader for larger treatment areas.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Bonide Hydrated Lime to use by measuring the treatment area's square footage. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Test soil pH level. Use the results of your soil test to determine how much you wish to change the pH level of your soil. A soil pH level of 6.5 is best for most gardens. Generally, 3.5 lbs. of Bonide Hydrated Lime per 70 sq. ft. will raise the pH unit measure one point on the pH scale. For potted plants, mix 1 tablespoon of product with 1 gallon of water and apply as you would normally water.
- Step 2: Load your spreader or tablespoon with the proper amount of product.
- Step 3: Wearing gardening gloves, work in Bonide’s Hydrated Lime around each plant. Do not mix with fertilizers before using. Water normally.
Where to Use
Bonide Hydrated Lime can be used on the soil of lawns, gardens, and potted plants.
When to Use
Make applications when you notice soil pH level is not accurate for your specific plant species.
A pH of 6.5 to 7.0 is considered by many to be “neutral”. However, each type of plant has a soil pH that is right for that plant. A soil pH of range of 5.8 to 7.0 is considered suitable for most garden crops and lawns.
