10/29/25
Bonide Captain Jack's Bug and Slug Killer, manufactured by Bonide, is an easy-to-use pellet insecticide and bait that targets pests while being environmentally friendly and safe for greenhouses, gardens, fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals.
With iron and spinosad as its active ingredients, this product works to attract, control, and eliminate various plant-damaging pests such as slugs, snails, ants, pillbugs, and more.
Bonide Captain Jack's Bug and Slug Killer is a long-lasting granule product that combines natural ingredients for effective preventative pest care and current severe infestations.
Tools Needed
It can be applied with a hand or power-operated broadcast, granular or drop spreader (gravity or rotary).
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Bonide Captain Jack's Bug and Slug Killer to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Apply bait evenly at approximately 0.5 to 1 lb per 1000 square feet, or for smaller areas, 0.075 to 0.15 oz, or 0.5 to 1 teaspoon, per square yard.
- Step 2: After adjusting the calibrations, load the spreader with the proper amount of granules.
- Step 3: If the ground is dry, wet it before applying bait. Scatter the bait granules on the soil around or near the plants to be protected. Scatter the bait around the perimeter of the area to provide a protective "barrier" for pests entering the area. Do not place it in piles. Do not apply more than 3 times in any 30-day period. Re-apply after heavy rain or watering.
Where to Use
Bonide Captain Jack's Bug and Slug Killer can be used around residential vegetables, fruit trees, berries ornamental, lawns, and gardens.
When to Use
Evening is the best time to apply the bait as pests travel and feed mostly by night or early morning.
Do not apply within 3 days of harvest.
Safety Information
Bonide Captain Jack's Bug and Slug Killer are safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product.
People and pets can enter the area after the product is applied.
Special Considerations
Consistent rain may wash the granules away causing the residual to lessen.
