Basagran T&O, manufactured by BASF, is a broad-spectrum post-emergent herbicide for removing broadleaf weeds on warm and cool season turf and ornamentals. It is especially effective against various types of sedge grasses.

This product can be safely mixed with other herbicides to widen their spectrum of control even more.

Basagran is a selective herbicide meaning it only targets the weeds listed on the label and will not harm your desired plant life (check label for details). The product is very easy to mix and use and can help you during the growing season to keep those pesky weeds away so your landscape is looking its best.

Tools Needed

To use Basagran T&O you will need to use either a hand-pump, hose-end or backpack sprayer, depending on your preference.

How to Use

Spraying selective herbicides

  • Step 1: Determine how much Basagran T/O Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment site in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). Apply 5 teaspoons of Basagran T/O Herbicide in 1-2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. of turf or 2 pints of product in 40-80 gallons of water per acre for turf. For yellow nutsedge control in turf, use 0.75 fl. oz. of product in 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For ornamentals, nursery, other non-food crops, noncrop sites, roadsides, and other rights-of way applications, use 0.55 fl. oz. of product in 0.5 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. When foliage is dense, use up to 2.5 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer to the label for specific application rates as weed growth stages will determine rates.
  • Step 2: Fill the sprayer with half the amount of water, add measured amount of Basagran T/O Herbicide, then pour in the remaining half of water. Agitate the sprayer well to make sure the product is well mixed.
  • Step 3: Apply Basagran T&O mixture to actively growing weeds as a post-emergent broadcast spray or you can spot treat the problem areas. Make sure you cover the weed generously with the product. Do not mow three days before or after application for optimal control. Rainfall or sprinkler irrigation within 8 hours after application may reduce the effectiveness of this product.
  • Step 4: Repeat application every 10 to 14 days for long-term control all season long.

Where to Use

Use Basagran T&O to control weeds in established cool-seasoned turf and warm-seasoned turf, ornamentals, roadsides, nursery (plants), non-crop sites, rights-of-way, and other non-food crops.

This product may be used on established bluegrass, fescue, bentgrass, Bermudagrass, bahiagrass, centipedegrass, zoysiagrass, ryegrass, St. Augustinegrass, carpetgrass, and buffalograss.

Not recommended for use on golf course greens or collars.

When to Use

Apply Basagran T&O when you have noticed emerged weeds on your property. The best times to treat is early when the weed is young and actively growing.

For optimum control, do not mow within 3 days before or after application. For sedges, do not mow within 5 days of application.

Safety Information

Basagran T&O is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.

Wait until 48 hours have passed after application before allowing pets, children, and other individuals to enter treated areas.

Special Considerations

We recommend using a surfactant to aid in the effectiveness of Basagran T&O such as methylated seed oil (MSO) or crop oil concentrate (COC).

Do not apply this product to any newly seeded or newly sprigged turf until seedlings or sprigs are well established, as injury may result.

When treating turf with Basagran T/O Herbicide, avoid over-the-top spraying of adjacent ornamental trees, shrubs, and flowers unless otherwise recommended in this label. Spraying near the base of established ornamental trees, shrubs, and flowers should not result in injury except for sycamore and rhododendron.
