Basagran Herbicide
Basagran Herbicide
Basagran Herbicide is a reliable post-emergent herbicide that provides safe early post-emergent control over sedges and broadleaf weeds within crops.
Basagran Herbicide, manufactured by United Phosphorous, is an effective post-emergent herbicide that provides total control over sedges and broadleaf weeds within 7-14 days.
With sodium salt of bentazon 44.0% as its active ingredient, this product will kill weeds like morningglory, redweed, ladysthumb through contact action.
Basagran Herbicide is an effective contact herbicide that controls various common actively growing weeds in a variety of crops.
Tools Needed
Basagran Herbicide can be applied with a spray rig or aerial application equipment.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Basagran Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For general applications when weeds are between 2-4 inches in height use 1.0 pint of Basagran Herbicide in 10-20 gallons of water per acre when using ground equipment. General applications when weeds are 2-10 inches in height use 2.0 pints of product in 10-20 gallons of water per acre with ground equipment. Refer to the label for specific application rates and restrictions. Do not apply more 4 pints of product per acre per season.
- Step 2: Fill the clean spray tank with half the amount of water. Add in the measured amount of Basagran Herbicide and any additional products like surfactants. Fill the spray tank with the remaining half of water and maintain sufficient agitation during both mixing and application until the product is completely dissolved. Apply the mixed solution within 48 hours after mixing.
- Step 3: Depending on the weed, the spray height will vary. Spray the top and bottom of weed leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Make a second application as instructed on the label for the specific crop you are treating.
Where to Use
Basagran Herbicide can be used in beans, clover grown for seed, corn, peanuts, peas, peppermint, rice, sorghum, soybeans and spearmint.
Bean and pea (dry shelled and succulent) crops approved for use with this product include: adzuki bean, black turtle bean, cranberry bean, dry snap bean, English pea, garden pea, great northern bean, kidney bean, lima (dry) bean, navy bean, pink bean, pinto bean, red bean, southern pea, and white bean.
Do not apply in rice fields in which commercial cultivation of catfish or crayfish is practiced.
When to Use
Use Basagran Herbicide when weeds are between 2-10 inches in height and when soil is free of water on days when rainfall is expected to occur 4 hours after application.
Do not apply to crops that show injury (leaf phytotoxicity or plant stunting) produced by any other prior herbicide applications, because this injury may be enhanced or prolonged.
Safety Information
Basagran Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of treated areas until 48 hours have passed after application.
Special Considerations
If poor performance occurs and cannot be attributed to adverse weather or application conditions, a resistant biotype may be present. Where other control strategies, such as crop rotation, mechanical removal, and other classes of herbicides are not used in fields from year to year, this is most likely to occur.
Cultivation of treated weeds 7 days prior to or within 7 days after application of this product could reduce weed control.

Keith's Pro Tips | "Any weed population may contain or develop plants naturally resistant to an herbicidal mode of action. Resistant biotypes can eventually dominate the weed population if herbicides with an identical mode of action are used repeatedly on the same site. If this happens, control of resistant biotypes will not occur unless an herbicide with a different mode of action is utilized. Whenever possible, tank mix or rotate the use of Basagran Herbicide with herbicides that have a different mode of action.” |
Product Drawbacks | Adjuvants may increase crop leaf burn and may enhance injury from tank mix partners with Basagran Herbicide. |
