Tools Needed

To use Barricade 4FL Herbicide, you will need a backpack, spray rig, or hand-held pump sprayer. A hand-pump sprayer would be ideal for smaller applications

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Barricade 4FL Herbicide to use by calculating the square footage of the treatment site. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply (length X width = square footage). For turfgrass applications, use 0.5 to 1.1 oz. of Barricade 4FL Herbicide per 1,000 sq. ft. This product may be applied more than once a year as long as total amount is not greater than maximum application rate for each turf grass species. Wait until 60 days have passed after seeding or until second mowing, whichever is longer, before applying this product. Refer to the product label for specific application rates.
  • Step 2: Fill a hand-pump sprayer 3/4th of the way with water and then mix in measured amount of Barricade 4FL Herbicide. Fill the sprayer the rest of the way with water and agitate the sprayer until solution is well-mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray the mixed solution as a broadcast or over the top spray onto labeled treatment areas. Make sure to put the sprayer on a fan setting to get nice uniform coverage. Water the treated areas with 0.5 inches of irrigation within 14 days after application. Reapply as according to the product label to control weeds before they emerge.

Where to Use

Barricade 4FL Herbicide can be used on established turfgrasses (excluding golf course putting greens), lawns, and sod nursuries. In container, field-grown, and landscape ornamentals. On established perennial and wildflower plantings. This product may also be applied to Christmas tree farms.

Do not apply to golf course putting greens. Not for use on container grown plants or food producing trees, vines, or plants.

When to Use

Barricade 4FL can be applied in the late summer, fall, or winter before weeds germinate. Apply when plants are not under stress from heat, drought, or frost damage.

If the weed is already growing, Barricade 4FL will not work and you will have to use a post-emergent herbicide.

  2. Q:Will this affect newly seeded fescue or Kentucky bluegrass lawns ?
    8/25/22
A:Injury to desirable seedlings is likely if Barricade 4FL is applied before the secondary roots of seedlings are in the second inch of soil, not thatch plus soil. To reduce the potential to injure overseeded turf, wait 60 days after seeding or until after the second mowing, whichever is longer, before applying Barricade 4FL Herbicide. This product can be applied to established Kentucky Bluegrass lawns.

  3. Q:Will this work on sandburs?
    1/18/20
A:Thank you for asking. Barricade 4FL Herbicide is not labeled for use on sandburs. We recommend using MSMA Target 6 Plus Herbicide. This is labeled for use on sandburs.

  5. Q:What effect does this product have on trees, shrubs , and flowers. Can it leech into the soil and migrate to root systems of trees and shrubs and flowers? I have two ash trees in my yard and this product was applied to my neighbors yard, I haven't used any fertilizers or herbicides or insecticides prior to or after this product was applied to my neighbor's yard, one of my trees is losing its leaves and apparently dying on the half of the tree facing the neighbor's yard. The damage to my tree is obviously from some type of chemical and is systemicly being taken up through the root system facing the neighbors yard. If this is in fact the cause (I am going to have it analyzed by a lab) is there a counter agent that can be used to stop and reverse the damage. I would appreciate a reply to the email address on this page. Thank you for your help.

A:Barricade is a pre-emergent and will not cause any harm to plants or trees. For selective preemergence control of grass and broadleaf weeds in: • established turfgrasses (excluding golf course putting greens), lawns, and sod nurseries • container, field-grown, and landscape ornamentals • established perennial and wildflower plantings • Christmas tree farms
