MSM Turf Herbicide (Manor), manufactured by Quali Pro, is a high-quality post-emergent granular herbicide that removes broadleaf and grassy weeds in cool-seasoned grasses.

MSM Turf is a professional-grade post-emergent weed killer that stops weed growth and improves the aesthetic appearance of lawns and golf courses. It is the generic version of the popular herbicide brand Manor Herbicide.

It is specifically formulated with the active ingredient metsulfuron-methyl 60.0%, which travels through the plant roots to stunt their growth. As a result, complete weed death occurs within a couple of weeks with no possibility of regrowth from leftover plant material. It gives outstanding weed control with the lowest application rates, making it economical.

Tools Needed

To apply MSM Turf Herbicide, you must use a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or professional skid sprayer. We recommend using the handheld pump sprayer when treating small areas.

How to Use

Pump Sprayer application of MSM Turf Herbicide

  • Step 1: Determine how much MSM Turf to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, divide the square footage by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). Depending on the weed and type of turf, apply between 0.125 to 1 oz. of MSM Turf in 20 to 80 gallons of water per acre of ornamental turf, golf courses, and sod farms. Use 1/3 to 4 oz. of product in 100 gallons of water per acre for non-agricultural uses. For spot applications on established grasses in rangelands, use 1 oz. of product per 100 gallons of water. Refer to the label for specific application rates and restrictions.
  • Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water and add the measured amount of MSM Turf to the spray tank. Once the product is thoroughly mixed in, add more water, filling the sprayer the rest of the way. Continue to agitate the process and add any additional label-approved ingredients at this time.
  • Step 4: Apply the mixture to the top and bottom of weed leaves until wet, but not at the point of runoff. Another application may be needed within 4 to 6 weeks.

Where to Use

MSM Turf Herbicide (Manor) can be applied to cool-seasoned turf in ornamental turf, such as lawns, parks, cemeteries, and golf courses (fairways, aprons, tees, and roughs). It may also be used for non-agricultural use, such as sod farms.

When to Use

Apply MSM Turf Herbicide when weeds are young and at least 2 to 3 inches tall. Turf should be well-established at the time of application and not experience any stress from drought, insects, disease, cold temperatures, or high temperatures.

Do not apply to turf less than 1 year old.

Do not plant ornamentals such as shrubs and trees in treated areas for at least 1 year after the last application or bedding plants for at least 2 years.

Safety Information

MSM Turf Herbicide is safe for children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.

Do not allow people or pets to enter treated areas until the sprays have dried.

Special Considerations

Cold or frozen soil slows the results of MSM Turf when scheduling the application intervals. It is suggested that the first application be made in spring to early summer.

If applications are made in late summer, MSM Turf Herbicide should not be applied again until the spring of the following year.

Did nothing to the weeds
I had my hopes very high for this product. However, so far it did not deliver and it's been a dissapointment. I sprayed the weeds in my lawn lavishly, on a hot day and with a pretty good concentration (following all of the instructions). Sprayed them twice in a row, soaking the leaves pretty well. Two weeks later, there is absolutely no reaction. It's like I sprayed those weeds with water. No wilting, no browning, nothing! I will try again as I have plenty left and will go with much higher concentration to see if it does better. The mix I used was also mixed with water and sat in a tube for a couple of weeks before I used it, so maybe that is another reason it didn't work. Will try using it right after mixing with water to see if there is any difference.
Cheap for the volume and the concentration
Did nothing to the weeds in my lawn
Broad leaf control
After I sprayed these 2 products together, the weeds died after about 2 weeks.
Great products
Happy with this product
Product works great on St. Augustine grass for broadleaf weeds.
it works
first dose kind of wilted weeds but did not get rid of them.
mixed a second dose 20% stronger and it worked great. Had several sections of my lawn that were more weeds than lawn. Looks great now.
this stuff works!
might have to play around with the dose/potency mix to get it right.
Perfect!
Worked as advertised on killing Dollar Weed.
None
Slow working
Product works but it is slow and takes a couple of treatments. Kills dollar weed in four to five weeks.
Kills dollar weed
Very slow working
Great herbicide
This works really well in my lawn. We have a large property near edge of subdivision and see a lot of different weeds. This takes care of most of them
Easy Mix Instructions
I see a lot of folks confused about how much MSM to mix per gallon. I add 1 gram MSM per gallon of water for Buttonweed and it burns down in 2-3 weeks. DON’T SPRAY ON HOT DAYS IN SUMMER. Spray early morning or late afternoon. It will stunt St Aug but it will recover in 2-3 weeks.
Kills most weeds and is much cheaper than Celsius.
Not effective on sedges.
THIS STUFF WORKS....
I have previously used Atrizine, (~$16 per quart), to control my Dollar weeds. It did work "OK", but, was not lawn friendly. A bottle of Atrizine would give me several applications for basically the same price as the MSM Turf product, which would provide 40 - 1.5 gallons of mix using 1.5 grams per 1.5 gallons of water. I also just started using the Vision Pro Max Indicator Dye - using .5 ounces per 1.5 gallons, to let me know where I have applied the MSM Turf. After just a few days, the Dollar weeds are yellowing and will be gone in a week or two. For the performance and price of this MSM Turf product, I can totally recommend this as THE product to kill your dollar weeds....
Works FAST.
VERY Economical - 40 - 1.5 gallons of mix per 2 oz bottle - ~ 16 dollars.
Does not harm ST. Augustine grass.
None.

  3. Q:What herbicide can I use to kill white top around trees and shrubs?
    5/30/24
A:Eraser 41% Glyphosate would be a good option as this kill whitetop next to trees. This product is a non-selective herbicide that will kill all vegetation contacted (including desired ones), but will not remain in the soil thus not affecting any nearby untreated plants. To avoid potential damages from spray drifts during application, place a barrier such as a cardboard box between the weed and tree. https://www.solutionsstores.com/eraser-41-glyphosate

  4. Q:I have white top growing in my yard around some bushes and trees. Is it safe to use a turf in this environment?
    5/28/24
A:No, MSM Turf will control whitetop but it cannot be used near these sites.

  5. Q:Ag extension says this product is effective on lyreleaf sage but I don't see it on the target list. Need to treat well-established centipede grass in shady area (so grass not as thick) being overtaken by lyreleaf sage. Is this safe to try? Thanks.
    4/21/24
A:While MSM Turf Herbicide is labeled to be used on centipedegrass the same can't be said for lyreleaf sage. Anytime a weed is not listed on the label we cannot recommend it.

    Amanda

    4/23/24
  6. Q:What to use on fox tail near mesquite and pine tree?
    4/20/24
A:Eraser 41% Glyphosate would kill foxtails next to trees. However, it is non-selective meaning it will kill any plant it contacts so protect desirable plants and vegetation from sprays by placing a piece of cardboard or plastic between the weed and desirable plant. https://www.solutionsstores.com/eraser-41-glyphosate

  9. Q:Will MSM Turf kill winter grass? Can we use this to established Bermuda grass?
    4/5/24
A:Winter grass is a type of ryegrass, which this product is labeled to control. Yes, you can use it on established bermudagrass. Some chlorosis or stunting of the Bermudagrass may occur following the application.

  10. Q:Will MSM Turf kill Buttonweed and is a surfactant recommended? Thank you.
    4/4/24
A:Yes. I used it to kill my Virginia buttonweed. However, it took multiple applications about 6 weeks apart because it's difficult to kill. Surfactant is definitely recommended.
