Keith's Pro Tips

When using a termite bait or monitoring station, it is recommended that you use enough units to properly surround the property; that's usually around 15 or 20 depending on the property size. When installing them, focus on areas that are conducive to termite activity, such as around A/C units or water faucets.

The Best Termite Bait Stations

A termite bait station is a piece of equipment installed in the soil around structures that monitors for termite activity and delivers termiticides. Most termite bait stations use toxic termite baits to achieve control. Termite stations allow you to know when there is termite activity. They also allow you to deal with the infestation before it can severely damage your home or business.

Termite bait stations are installed at regular intervals around a structure. Once installed they need to be checked and maintained regularly.

Recommendation

We recommend the Red Eye Termite Monitoring Station. The Red Eye's design offers a huge improvement over traditional termite bait stations.

The body of the station houses a rope that is high in cellulose and acts as a termite attractant. As termites feed on the attractant, the Red Eye will drop from view from the clear view window at the top of the station, indicating termite activity. This visual indicator will save you time; all you have to do is walk around the property and look for the red eye. No more digging up and opening stations to check for activity.

The top of the Red Eye Station contains an access port that allows you to spray a foaming termiticide directly into termite galleries leading up to the station. This direct kill method is much faster than slow acting termiticide baits used by most termite stations. The foaming termiticide we recommend you use with the Red Eye station is Fipro Foaming Termiticide.

User Guide

Step 1: Planning

Determine how many stations you will need to effectively protect the structure. Red Eye stations should be placed 5 feet away from the structure, with 8 to 10 feet of space between each station. Measure the perimeter of your structure and determine how many increments of 8 to 10 feet there are. That is how many stations you will need to effectively protect the structure.

Step 2: Installation

To install the stations, drill or dig a 2 inch diameter hole in the soil deep enough to fit the entire body of the station. Insert the station with the dome is flush with the ground.

Step 3: Monitoring and Treatment

The hard part is over, now you just need to wait and check the Red Eye in the dome of the station regularly. Once the red dot disappears, you know you have termite activity. To treat simply open the injection port and insert the applicator straw of your Fipro Foaming Termiticide and inject the foam into the station. Keep spraying and the foam will gradually fill the station and work its way down directly into the termite tunnels themselves for a direct kill.

Inspection and Maintenance

There is little to no maintenance required because once the Red Eye drops, the station will need to be replaced to be effective against a new infestation. Remember, the termites will actually eat into the body of the station causing the Red Eye to drop. This is your visual cue. If you try to use the station again with the Red Eye dropped from view, there will be no way to know if a new termite infestation has reached the station.

Parts

Red Eye on white background

The Red Eye Termite Monitoring Station has few parts compared to traditional bait stations. It consists only of the body, the dome, the indicator, and the injection port.

The Body

The body of the station is a 2” diameter pole which is inserted into the soil around the structure you wish to protect.

The Dome

The top of the station is a black disk which should rest flush against the ground when the station is properly installed.

The Indicator

The indicator is the small red dot which can be seen through a clear plastic view hole on the top of the station. When this red dot disappears, you know you have termite activity.

The Injection Port

The injection port is on the side of the station’s black top and is protected by a small black cover. When it’s time to inject termiticide, remove the cover, insert the applicator into the port and inject.
