Keith's Pro Tips

"For really stubborn weeds, Aminopyarlid product applications may need to be repeated for best results. Make sure to use Aminopyralid along with a non-ionic surfactant to enhance the active ingredient and provide better sticking to target plants."

Aminopyralid

Solutions Pest & Lawn is home to many different herbicides that contain active ingredients designed to remove the toughest of weeds. One such active ingredient that is particularly notable is the new age herbicide known as aminopyralid. Aminopyralid is regarded as a “next generation” herbicide and was developed to control noxious, poisonous and invasive broadleaf weeds for agricultural farmers and residential customers.

Solutions Pest & Lawn proudly carry herbicides that contain Aminopyralid. On this page, you can learn some interesting facts about this herbicide active ingredient, how it works as well as shop our recommended Aminopyralid-based products.

What is Aminopyralid?

Aminopyralid (4-amino-3,6-dichloro-2-pyridine carboxylic acid) is a pyridine carboxylic acid active ingredient that can deliver systemic control of target species of plants while having good tolerance of cool- and warm-season grasses. Aminopyralid can provide both pre-emergent and post-emergent control and has the capacity to control the entire plant, including the roots, and can even provide residual control to keep noxious plants from coming back.

Aminopyralid based products are intended for use in rangelands, permanent grass pastures, non-cropland areas such as rights-of-way and roadsides, natural areas (wildlife management areas, natural recreation areas), grazed areas, as well as on wheat. Aminopyralid has demonstrated that it can control some of the most toughest weeds such as tropical soda apple, Canada thistle, knapweeds, and other invasive species, and can deliver residual weed control at low application rates.

How Does Aminopyralid Work?

Mode of Action

The mode of action for Aminopyralid is that it works as a plant growth regulator that can turn on and off vital plant processes like a switch. Once absorbed by the targeted plant, Aminopyralid is rapidly absorbed by the leaves and roots and moves systemically throughout the plant and interferes with plant growth metabolic pathways, affecting the growth process of the plant, via uneven cell division and growth.

Benefits of Aminopyralid

Aminopyralid is a quick killer of invasive weeds and brush. It is a systemic herbicide and also selective meaning that it will only kill target weeds and leave desired vegetation and turf unharmed. Use Aminopyralid products when you are dealing with hard-to-control trees, woody plants and brush that are not responding well to other herbicide formulations.

Drawbacks of Aminopyralid

Aminopyralid is effective but in most cases requires the use of a non-ionic surfactant for best results in weed control. It is also not recommended for small applications.

Do not use Aminopyralid for small residential applications. It is usually meant for large volume applications in fields and pastures or industrial sites.

Is Aminopyralid Safe?

When applied properly, Aminopyralid is safe around pets and children after the product has completely dried. Solutions Pest & Lawn recommends that as long as you wear the proper safety gear (as should be customary to applying any of our pesticides) and equipment when handling this product, you will have nothing to worry about when applying. Typical safety equipment to have on when handling this product are safety gloves, goggles, long sleeve clothes and possibly a respiratory safety mask.

What To Expect

Spraying woody vegetation

After the Aminopyralid active ingredient has been applied you should see the following symptoms within a few hours up to a few days, depending on the weed species: Aminopyralid causes symptoms such as disfiguring of stems and leaves, crinkling of leaves, cracks in the stems, narrow leaves with callus tissue, stem growth that is hardened, enlarged roots and other signs of overgrowth. Most annual weeds that are exposed to Aminopyralid are controlled within four to eight weeks after application.

The main stems and the root systems of woody and semi-woody plants may require two or more months after application to be completely controlled. Plant growth will stop within 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
