Coronavirus Disinfecting with DSV & Pump Sprayer
The novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes the rapidly spreading disease COVID-19 has been affecting the world at large, causing record amounts of infections and health complications. Based on what is known about the virus from the CDC, Coronavirus spreads from person to person contact via respiratory droplets from carriers and possibly through surfaces. One of the most important things you can do during this concerning time to protect yourself, your family and your friends and neighbors, besides social distancing, is to clean and disinfect your home.
While you could use bleach or household items containing at least 70% alcohol to disinfect surfaces in and around your home, one of the best products to use due to its effectiveness against Human Coronavirus is DSV Disinfectant Sanitizer.
On this page, we will tell you more about DSV and how you can use it to sanitize your home and reduce the spread of Coronavirus infection using a hand pump sprayer.
*Please note that due to high volume demands, DSV may experience a delay in shipping. We are currently accepting and fulfilling orders as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience.
What is DSV?
DSV is a multi-purpose cleaning solution marketed as a disinfectant, sanitizer, and virucide. DSV can be used on hard, non-porous surfaces in a wide variety of settings to provide effecting cleaning, deodorizing and disinfection with a fresh citrus scent.
DSV will not stain or leave a residue and has been tested and passed virucidal efficacy against a wide range of viruses including Human and Canine Coronavirus. The active ingredients in DSV have been officially confirmed by the EPA to be effective against COVID-19.
DSV can be used in a number of different ways, but in this guide, we will cover specifically how to apply it using a pump sprayer to treat and disinfect surfaces in and around the home. We suggest using a sprayer mainly due to its ease of use in both diluting the DSV and applying it to the target area.
User Guide
Step 1: Use The Proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Before Application
COVID-19 is a very infectious virus and so it is a must to wear PPE before cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Wear chemical-resistant disposable gloves. You should also put on protective eye wear, a safety mask, and long sleeves anytime you are handling and mixing DSV product.
Step 2: Dilute the DSV in a Pump Sprayer
For general virucidal disinfection, dilute 1.25 oz. of DSV in 1 gallon of water. Start by filling the sprayer halfway with water and then pour the DSV concentrate into the sprayer and then fill with the remaining half of water. Close the lid and agitate the sprayer until the product is well-mixed.
Step 3: Apply the DSV Solution to Disinfect Hard Surfaces
Apply your DSV solution using a fine spray on hard, inanimate, non-porous surfaces until they are thoroughly wet but not dripping. Aim the sprayer nozzle 6 to 8 inches away from the surfaces and coat entirely at a low to medium pressure. If you are disinfecting a surface with a large amount of grime or buildup, you may have to pre-clean these areas so that the DSV solution can sufficiently coat the area.
Once the surface is covered with the DSV, allow the surfaces to remain wet for 10 minutes. You can then either rinse the surface with water, allow the sprayed surface to air dry, or use a cloth to wipe up any excess liquid. On some surfaces, it may be easier to spray your solution on a dry cloth and use that to apply the product.
The surfaces you should focus your spray application on are those that are frequently touched surfaces, such as:
- tables (dining tables, coffee tables, etc.)
- doorknobs
- counter tops
- hard-surfaced chairs (wooden chairs etc.)
- backs and arms of chairs
- handles (on doors and windows etc.)
- desks
- trash cans
- hard plastic toys
- mailboxes
- bathtubs and showers (faucets, curtains etc.)
- toilets
- faucets
- sinks
Keep in mind that any surface that comes into contact with food, such as counter tops or kitchen appliances, must be rinsed with water after the surfaces have been treated.
Step 4: Wash Your Hands Often
After you have treated all the surfaces, remove your gloves and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If there is no soap and water available at the time, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. You should make sure that all household members also regularly wash their hands and avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth with unclean hands.
Things To Consider
We do want to stress that DSV should only be used to treat hard, non-porous surfaces and should not be used on soft fabrics or furniture. DSV is also not to be used to disinfect or clean glassware, utensils, dishes, or the interior of appliances. This also must not be used as a hand or body disinfectant. Though DSV will not damage most hard surfaces and is safe once dry, this may cause serious skin irritation or skin burns.
For electronics and other frequently touched items that DSV cannot be applied on (such as cell phones, tablets, remote controls, keyboards, computer monitors etc), use disinfectant wipes.
For disinfecting soft surfaces, like carpets, rugs, pillows, curtains, etc., vacuum the surfaces first to remove any grime or dirt. Then use household cleaning products or steam cleaners meant for cleaning and disinfecting soft, porous surfaces.
