Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide
Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide
Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide, manufactured by The Andersons brand, is a reliable and effective granular pre-emergent herbicide that controls crab grass and other hard to kill weeds such as grass burs.
This effective and easy to use product can be used on either warm-seasoned or cool-seasoned grasses. With its powerful active ingredient benefin 2.5%, it will eliminate weeds germinating underneath the turf soil by inhibiting cell division. This mode of action helps to curve the shape of the weeds roots to where they cannot grow accurately or process nutrients.
Simply apply this easy to use granular herbicide across parts of your turf that was previously infested for long-lasting control of annual grassy weeds with Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide.
Tools Needed
To use Balan 2.5 G you will need the help of a reliable granular spreader to broadcast the granules. You could use either a hand spreader or a push spreader.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide you need to use by measuring the square footage of your treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of your treatment area in feet then multiply (length X width = square footage). The typical rate for Northern (cool season) turfgrasses is 1.38 to 1.84 pounds per 1,000 sq. ft. For southern (warm season) turfgrasses the rate is 1.84 to 2.75 pounds per 1,000 sq. ft. The exact amount will be determined by the grassy weed you are trying to prevent. So, for example, if your warm season yard measures 2,000 sq. ft. and you're looking to control crabgrass, then you would load your spreader with Balan at a rate between 3.68 to 5.5 pounds.
- Step 2: Calibrate your spreader to the right spreader setting for application and load the appropriate amount of Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emegent Herbicide into the spreader.
- Step 3: Broadcast the granules uniformly using your spreader type. You may need to do two perpendicular passes to get a nice uniform coverage. Water the lawn afterward to activate the granules.
Where to Use
Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide can be used on warm and cool-season residential and commercial turf and golf courses (excluding putting greens).
When to Use
Timing is key when applying pre-emergent. If the weeds are already established, the product will not work. The best time to apply pre-emergent is both the spring and fall. Spring applications, which control summer weeds, should take place when the weather is at 65-70 degrees F during the day. Fall applications, which control winter weeds, need to wait until night air temperatures reach a low of 55-60 degrees. It is best to apply pre-emergents like Balan 2.5 G one to two weeks before weed seeds germinate.
Safety Information
Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when loading and applying this product.
Keep people and pets away from the treatment area until it is has completely dried.
Special Considerations
Balan 2.5 G Pre-Emergent Herbicide will not kill established weeds. For that, you will need to use a post-emergent herbicide. Any cultural practices that will disturb the soil, such as aeration, should be done before application of Balan 2.5 G.
