Astro Insecticide
Astro Insecticide
Astro Insecticide from FMC Professional Solutions is a powerful and cost-effective insecticide application used primarily to treat tree and turf damaging pests like borers, beetles, leafhoppers, chinch bugs, and others. The permethrin based formula delivers a quick knockdown, a long-time residual and is able to penetrate into tree bark and will not wash away even after rainfall.
Tools Needed
To use Astro Insecticide you will need either a hose-end sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or spray rig. For smaller sized residential treatments, we recommend a handheld 1-gallon pump sprayer or a 4-gallon backpack sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Astro Insecticide you will need by calculating the square footage of the area you will be treating. You can do this by multiplying the length times width. For general small-volume applications, Astro Insecticide can be prepared at a 0.5% emulsion by mixing 1.6 fl. oz. in 1 gallon of water to treat 1,000 sq. ft. So for example, if you measured a 2,500 sq. ft. area to treat, you would need to mix 4 fl. oz. of Astro Insecticide in 2.5 gallons of water.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer with half the required amount of water and then add Astro Insecticide at the appropriate measured amount based on your calculations. Add the remaining half of the required water and then agitate the sprayer until the solution is well-mixed.
- Step 3: Apply the product according to labeled directions in the areas where you are having pest infestations. Completely cover foliage. You can apple Astro as a coarse spray, drench, or broadcast. If spraying a tree, treat stems and trunks up to 10 feet from the ground.
Where to Use
Astro Insecticide is meant to only be for outdoor use to control pests on ornamentals and lawns in landscaped areas around residential, institutional, public, commercial and industrial buildings, parks, recreational areas, golf courses, athletic fields and anywhere you have insects that are doing damage to outdoor plants.
When to Use
Use Astro Insecticide upon recognizing a pest infestation around your yard or if you notice turf or tree damage. This is typically around the spring and summer months when pest activity is very high. Repeat application is necessary only if there are signs of renewed insect activity. Repeat application should be limited to no more than once per seven days.
Safety Information
Astro Insecticide is safe to use when applied according to label directions. Be sure to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying (gloves, safety mask, long-sleeved clothing, etc). Keep pets and children away from treated outdoors areas until the product has completely dried.
Special Considerations
Generally Astro Insecticide will be applied with a pump sprayer but could also be power sprayed. Apply as a pinstream, as a fine/coarse, low-pressure spray (20 psi or less), as a spot treatment or with a paintbrush.
