Glufosinate 24.5, manufactured by Agrisel, is a non-residual post-emergent crabgrass and weed killer. As a foliar-active spray, this water-soluble herbicide will not reside within your soil and will travel through the pants leaves to its roots killing it within 2 to 4 days.

This product has an active ingredient 24.5% of glufosinate ammonium that works well against a variety of broadleaf weeds (ragweed, fleabane, thistle), grasses and sedges (bluegrass, bermudagrass, fescue), and woody species (cannot be used in California).

This herbicide is labeled as a group 10 herbicide (glutamine synthetase inhibitor) which will dominate the weed population if used repeatedly in the same treatment area.

Tools Needed

Agrisel Glufonsinate 24.5 can be applied with a pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, hose end sprayer, or spray rig for large volume applications. You will also need the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants that go all the way to your feet, shoes with socks, mask, googles, and gloves.

How to Use

Backpack Sprayer

  • Step 1: Determine how much Agrisel Glufosinate 24.5 to use by assessing the square footage of the area to be treated. If unsure of the treatment areas square footage use the formula (length X width = square footage). To determine acreage, take your measured square footage then divide by 43,560 (1 acre). For example, if you have a 17,200 sq. ft. lot you will take 17,200/43,560= 0.39 acres. Depending on the location and foliage the rates can vary as well as the type of application used. Spot or direct applications will use between 0.4 to 0.75 fl. oz. with 1 gallon of water. Broadcast or boom applications, apply 12 to 38 fl. oz. of product per acre with at least 40 gallons of water.
  • Step 2: For mixed rate applications with other non-selective herbicides for non-crop uses, Agrisel Glufonsinate 24.5 can be mixed in at rates of 1.5 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water. It is recommended to perform a compatibility test with other herbicides first before mixing. Fill a jar, with three quarters of water then apply appropriate amount of herbicide. Evenly mix, and let the spray mixture stand for 15 minutes and look for separation, if separated then this mixture is not compatible together. Refer to the label for for specific species of weed and grass mix rates.
  • Step 3: In your selected sprayer, fill the spray tank halfway with required amount of water, add the measured amount of Agrisel Glufosinate 24.5, then fill the sprayer the rest of the way with the other half of measured water. Close the sprayer and agitate until the spray mixture is evenly mixed.
  • Step 4: With your sprayer of choice, carefully spray the undesired foliage until wet on both sides of leaves, but not to the point of runoff. You will want to apply an even coarse spray pattern until the foliage in the treatment area is coated on both sides of the plants leaves. Refer to the label for reapplication restrictions for the type of foliage being treated for.
