Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide, manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA, is a selective post-emergent herbicide that controls a wide range of broadleaf weeds and woody plants in cool-seasoned turf. Additionally, it suppresses bermudagrass in warm-season turf, making it an effective tool for transitioning to perennial ryegrass before fall overseeding.

Unlike contact herbicides that only burn the leaves, Turflon Ester Ultra travels through the entire plant—leaves, stems, and roots. That means a more complete kill and less regrowth. The active ingredient in Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide is Triclopyr, which works by disrupting plant growth hormones, causing abnormal growth that eventually kills the plant from the inside out.

Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide is a professional-grade herbicide concentrate that targets stubborn, deep-broadleaf weeds, kikuyugrass, and woody plants in residential and commercial turf. When used correctly, you can expect cleaner turf, healthier grass, and far fewer headaches in your ongoing fight against weeds.

Tools Needed

A handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or spray rig will be required.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For spot treatments in ornamental turf, mix 3/8 to 3/4 fl. oz. of Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For broadcast applications, use 1/2 to 1 quart of product per 100 gallons of water per acre. To control kikuyugrass, apply 1/2 to 1 quart of product per 100 gallons of water per acre. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
  • Step 2: Fill the spray tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, and pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake until well-mixed. Separation may occur unless the spray mixture is agitated continuously.
  • Step 3: Spray the top and bottom of the weed leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Reapply at 4-week intervals.

Where to Use

Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide can be used on ornamental turf.

Do not use on other turfgrass species, such as bahiagrass, bentgrass, Bermudagrass, centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, or zoysiagrass unless injury can be tolerated.

Do not apply directly to, or otherwise permit it to come into direct contact with, cotton, grapes, tobacco, vegetable crops, flowers, fruit or orchard trees, shrubs, or other desirable broadleaf plants.

When to Use

Apply during warm weather, early spring through fall, when weeds are actively growing.

Avoid applications when rainfall is expected within the next 24 hours after application.

Safety Information

Turflon Ester Ultra Specialty Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Special Considerations

To improve the spectrum of activity, Turflon Ester Ultra may be tank mixed at a rate of 1/2 to 1 pint per acre with recommended rates of low volatile amine or ester formulations of 2,4-D, MCPP, or other labeled postemergence broadleaf herbicides provided the tank mix product is registered for use on ornamental turf (perennial bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, or tall fescue ornamental turf including these turfgrasses in sod farms and golf courses).
