Tordon RTU Herbicide

09/12/25
Tordon RTU is a ready-to-use herbicide manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA. It does not need to be diluted or mixed with water or other liquids.
It is formulated with the active ingredients picloram and 2,4-D and can be used to control trees using various methods. It can be applied by injection, frill, or girdle treatment, and it is also effective as a stump remover.
Tordon RTU is effective against cedar, hickory, dogwood, and other hard-to-control trees. It is ideal for removing trees, taking over forest lands, and destroying other non-cropland sites.
Tools Needed
Tree trunk injector equipment is needed to apply Tordon RTU. When using the frill or girdle treatment, an ax will be needed to cut and score the tree bark. To treat the cuts or a tree stump, a sprayer or a paintbrush will be needed to apply the Tordon to the affected site.
How to Use
- Step 1: There are multiple methods of applications for Tordon RTU. For tree injection, 1 milliliter of Tordon RTU is used and injected through the tree bark around the tree at ground level every 2 to 3 inches between the edges of the injection sites.
- Step 2: To kill tree stumps, spray or paint the solution on the cambium area of the stump next to the bark with Tordon RTU.
- Step 3: For frill or girdle treatments, you will make a single hack girdle or "frill" of cuts with an ax through the bark completely around the tree, making the cuts overlap. You can then spray the Tordon RTU or paint the injured areas, using enough to make the areas wet.
Where to Use
Tordon RTU can be applied to various types of trees found in non-cropland areas, forest sites, fence lines, roadsides, and rights-of-way.
This product should not be applied on residential or commercial lawns or near ornamental trees and shrubs.
Tordon RTU can be applied whenever an unwanted tree or stump must be removed from specific areas. Treatment applications can be made anytime during the year, but maple trees should not be treated during spring sap flow.
Safety Information
Tordon RTU is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
It is not recommended for use on residential or commercial lawns.
Special Considerations
Tordon RTU is a ready-to-use herbicide that does not require dilution. It can be applied in various ways; always read the product label for specific directions on each application method for the best results. Do not apply within the root zone of desired trees, as they may be affected by root uptake, movement into the topsoil, or excretion of the product from nearby treated trees.
