Tordon RTU is a ready-to-use herbicide manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA. It does not need to be diluted or mixed with water or other liquids.

It is formulated with the active ingredients picloram and 2,4-D and can be used to control trees using various methods. It can be applied by injection, frill, or girdle treatment, and it is also effective as a stump remover.

Tordon RTU is effective against cedar, hickory, dogwood, and other hard-to-control trees. It is ideal for removing trees, taking over forest lands, and destroying other non-cropland sites.

Tools Needed

Tree trunk injector equipment is needed to apply Tordon RTU. When using the frill or girdle treatment, an ax will be needed to cut and score the tree bark. To treat the cuts or a tree stump, a sprayer or a paintbrush will be needed to apply the Tordon to the affected site.

How to Use

  • Step 1: There are multiple methods of applications for Tordon RTU. For tree injection, 1 milliliter of Tordon RTU is used and injected through the tree bark around the tree at ground level every 2 to 3 inches between the edges of the injection sites.
  • Step 2: To kill tree stumps, spray or paint the solution on the cambium area of the stump next to the bark with Tordon RTU.
  • Step 3: For frill or girdle treatments, you will make a single hack girdle or "frill" of cuts with an ax through the bark completely around the tree, making the cuts overlap. You can then spray the Tordon RTU or paint the injured areas, using enough to make the areas wet.
