Tandem Insecticide
Tandem Insecticide
Tandem Insecticide, manufactured by Syngenta, is an impressive microencapsulated insecticide with dual modes of action to control a wide range of pests both indoors and outdoors.
This suspended concentrate formulation is incredibly versatile as you can apply this product both indoor (as crack and crevice treatment) and outdoors (perimeter and broadcast treatment), and can even be sprayed on ornamentals, protecting your plants from insects for up to 5 weeks.
Tandem Insecticide combines the power of two proven active ingredients, lambda-cyhalothrin and thiamethoxam, to provide a double assault on pests with one product. Formulated with proprietary iCAP technology, Tandem provides a quick knock down and long-lasting control of a broad range of pests.
Tools Needed
To apply Tandem Insecticide, you will need a backpack sprayer, a hand-pump sprayer or a spray rig.
A surface treatment of Tandem Insecticide may be applied by using a paintbrush or other porous applicator attached to a handle.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Tandem Insecticide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment site. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). To perform spot treatments, use a concentration of 0.065%–0.13% of of active ingredient in final dilution. For a 0.065% concentration, use 16 ml (0.55 fl. oz.) of Tandem Insecticide per gallon of water. For a 0.13% concentration, use 32 ml (1.1 fl oz) of product per gallon of water. To perform a perimeter application around structures, apply 0.55 fl. oz. (16 ml) or 1.1 fl oz (32 ml) of product per 1-5 gallons of water per 800-1,600 sq. ft. Broadcast applications to turfgrass, use 28 fl. oz. of product per 100 gallons of water per acre or make 2 applications of 14 fl. oz. of product per acre on a 3- to 5- week interval. Application to ornamentals will use 8.5-13.9 fl. oz. of product per 100 gallons of water or 250-410 ml of product per 100 gallons of water.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer with half the amount of water, add measured amount of Tandem Insecticide, and pour remaining half of water into the spray tank. Close the sprayer lid and shake until solution is well-mixed.
- Step 3: Spray directly on the pest if present and thoroughly wet areas, but do not exceed 2 sq. ft. per spot application. When applying as a continuous band around structures, limit treatment to a band up to 7 ft wide around the structure (or according to state regulations governing commercial pest control) and upwards along the foundation to 3 ft. Delay watering or mowing for 12-24 hours after application for optimum control of surface-feeding insect pests.
Where to Use
Tandem Insecticide can be used in, on, and around buildings and structures for the control of listed pests, including on lawns, ornamental trees, and shrubs around residential, institutional, public, commercial, and industrial buildings, and in parks, recreational areas, and athletic fields.
Do not apply to pasture or cropland.
When to Use
Tandem Insecticide should be used when you have an infestation of pests in or around the structure or when you want to keep pests out via perimeter treatment. Applications can be made on a monthly basis, beginning in the spring, and can continue until frost.
Do not apply to plants that are flowering. Only apply after all flower petals have fallen off. Time application during periods when pollinating insects are not present, such as early morning or late evening.
Safety Information
Tandem Insecticide is safe to use around children and pets when used according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not apply directly to pets.
Keep children and pets off treated areas following the application until spray has dried.
Special Considerations
Use caution when treating nests of stinging insects as Tandem Insecticide does not provide instant knockdown. Protective equipment for the applicator may be required to reduce the risk of insect stings during application.
The use of an extension wand is recommended when applying the liquid or foam to nests to reduce the risk of being stung. For best results, treat nests in the evening when most insects will be present.
