Surflan XL 2G Herbicide

Surflan XL 2G Herbicide, manufactured by United Phosphorous, is an excellent granular pre-emergent herbicide that stops 21 types of annual grasses and 35 species of broadleaf weeds from ever sprouting in more than 250 types of turf and ornamentals in warm-seasoned lawns, landscapes non-cropland, and more for 2 to 4 months. 

The active ingredients oryzalin and benefin team up in this pre-emergent herbicide to stop weeds before they even sprout. Oryzalin halts root and shoot growth while benefin knocks out early weed development, giving turf and ornamentals fast, broad-spectrum protection that lasts all season and keeps landscapes looking clean and flawless. Tools Needed

A drop or rotary spreader is needed. 

Do not use spreaders that apply material in narrow concentrated bands.

How to Use

• Step 1: Determine how much Surflan XL 2G Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For general ornamental and turf applications, apply 4.6 to 6.9 pounds of Surflan XL 2G Herbicide per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions. 
• Step 2: Carefully pour the granules into the spreader, leveling them gently, and secure the lid if your spreader has one. Test a small area to ensure even distribution before treating the full area.
• Step 3: Walk at a steady pace while operating your spreader, keeping the spreader level for even coverage. Overlap slightly on each pass to avoid gaps, and avoid stopping or dumping granules in one spot. After application, irrigate with 0.5 inches of rainfall or irrigation to activate the granules.

Where to Use

Surflan XL 2G Herbicide can be used for container-grown ornamentals, landscape ornamentals, nursery stock, ground covers, established flowers, ornamental bulbs, and non-bearing fruit and nut trees and non-bearing vineyards are included, along with non-bearing berries, Christmas tree plantations, non-cropland areas, and established tall fescue and warm-season turf such as bahiagrass, bermudagrass, buffalograss, centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, and zoysiagrass.

Do not apply to cool-seasoned turf other than tall fescue.

When to Use

Apply before weeds are present from spring to fall. 

Safety Information

Surflan XL 2G Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product. 

Do not allow people and pets to enter the treated area until 24 hours have passed after application. 

Do not enter or allow others (including children or pets) to enter the treated areas (except those involved in the watering) until the watering-in is complete and the surface is dry.

Special Considerations

This product may injure turf that is not well established or is stressed or weakened due to unfavorable winter climatic conditions, drought, nematodes, or other factors, which damage or weaken turf root systems. Apply Surflan XL 2G only to healthy, well-established turf that has a well-anchored root system.

Do not apply this product in the spring or early summer to tall fescue turfgrass reseeded the previous fall.
