Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait
Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait is an environmentally friendly bait that safely controls snails and slugs within organic gardens.
11/04/25
Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait, manufactured by Monterey, is a safe alternative to traditional baits for slugs and snails. It contains naturally occurring iron phosphate, making it pet—and wildlife-safe.
This OMRI granule bait takes back residential lawns, gardens, greenhouses, vegetable gardens, and more from pests such as snails and slugs within 3 to 6 days. When the pests ingest even the smallest amount of this product they will immediately stop feeding and become less mobile. After this, they will perish in a secluded area.
Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait is an effective bait that offers organic snail and slug control and protects homeowners' plants without harming other animals.
Tools Needed
You may apply this product out of the container, a handheld spreader, or a broadcast spreader.
A smaller area may be treated with a teaspoon that is not intended for food reuse.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To find the square footage, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For listed vegetables, apply 0.5 to 1 lb. of Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait per 1,000 sq. ft. or for smaller areas, 0.15 oz., or 1 level teaspoon per square yard. To treat outdoor ornamentals, use 1 lb. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. For lawns, apply 0.15 oz. or 1 level teaspoon per square yard in areas where you have observed slugs and snails. Refer to the label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Calibrate the spreader to the proper settings and load the proper amount of product into it.
- Step 3: Spread or sprinkle the granules on the soil around or near the plants to be protected. Do not place them in piles. Reapply as the bait is consumed, or at least every two weeks. If the ground is dry, wet it before applying bait. Sluggo works best when the soil is moist but with little or no standing water.
Where to Use
Treat all likely areas of infestation, especially around the perimeter of garden plots because these pests travel into plant areas from daytime refuges. They favor damp places around vegetable plants such as beans, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, celery, and squash. Other favorite areas are flower gardens, rockeries, hedges, dichondra lawns, citrus groves, ivy patches, and other ground cover where they obtain shelter by day.
When to Use
Apply the bait during the evening, as slugs and snails travel and feed mostly by night or early morning.
Safety Information
Sluggo Slug & Snail Bait is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying this product.
