Pylex Herbicide
Pylex Herbicide is a powerful, fast-acting post-emergent herbicide that eliminates tough grassy and broadleaf weeds across a wide range of turf types, including golf courses and sod farms.
09/12/25
Pylex Herbicide, manufactured by BASF, is an advanced post-emergent herbicide concentrate that delivers grassy and broadleaf weed control fast and keeps cool-seasoned and warm-seasoned turf safe.
This systemic herbicide contains topramezone, which is a powerful HPPD inhibitor that causes bleaching and death of targeted weed species. While it may look alarming at first, this is exactly what you want it’s proof that the herbicide is working. Within a few days, the weeds begin to die back, giving you visual confirmation.
Managing Bermudagrass in Kentucky bluegrass or tall fescue is notoriously difficult. Pylex Herbicide is one of the only products that can visibly suppress Bermudagrass with minimal injury to the desirable turf.
Pylex Herbicide is an economical herbicide that targets the weeds without collateral turf damage, and in a world of broad-brush solutions, that’s rare. Its flexible application rates, seasonal timing options, and no-wait reseeding intervals make Pylex Herbicide the ultimate tank mix partner for enhanced, long-lasting weed control in both cool- and warm-season turf.
Tools Needed
A backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or spray rig will be required.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Pylex Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treamtent area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For spot applications, mix 0.023 to 0.034 fl. oz. of Pylex Herbicide per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For broadcast applications, apply 1.0 to 1.5 fl. oz. of product per 30 gallons of water per acre. Do not apply more than 2.0 fl. oz. of product per acre (0.046 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.) per application. Do not apply more than three times per season. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, and then pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake until well-mixed.
- Step 3: Adjust the sprayer to a fine, coarse spray pattern. Spray the top and bottom of the weed leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. For best results, avoid watering and irrigation for the next 24 hours after application. If needed, a second application can be made when 3 to 4 weeks have passed after the first application.
Where to Use
Pylex Herbicide can be used for cool-seasoned and warm-seasoned turf on golf courses, sod farms, and residential turfgrass.
