Mycotrol WPO

Mycotrol WPO, manufactured by BioWorks, is a biological insecticide and miticide that uses a naturally occurring fungus as its active ingredient to kill a broad-spectrum of pests in greenhouse and field settings. 

Unlike chemical insecticides, Beauveria bassiana infects insects through direct contact. The spores adhere to the insect's cuticle, germinate, and penetrate the exoskeleton, ultimately killing the host.This mode of action reduces the likelihood of resistance development.

Mycotrol WPO is an excellent wettable powder OMRI mycoinsecticide that controls a wide range of soft-bodied insects for hobby growers or commercial greenhouse operators. Because this is a biological, you’re not going to see overnight results like with knockdown insecticides. However, give it 7 to 10 days, and you will start seeing a visible reduction in pest populations without the use of toxic chemicals. 

Tools Needed

You can use a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or spray rig. 

A mixing tank or bucket will be needed to make dip applications. 

How to Use

• Step 1: Determine how much Mycotrol WPO to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Depending on the pest, apply 1/2 to 2 pounds of Mycotrol WPO per 100 gallons of water for greenhouses, nursery, landscape, and interiorscape. One hundred gallons of spray volume will typically cover 5,000-20,000 square feet. To treat turf and to make soil applications in container ornamentals, use 1 to 4 oz. of product per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions. 
• Step 2: Fill the spray tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of Mycotrol WPO, and then pour the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake until mixed. For dip applications, fill the bucket or container with the needed amount of water then add the product last. Gently stir until the solution is mixed. Fungal spores will die and lose effectiveness if left overnight or longer in water. 
• Step 3: Spray the top and bottom of leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Irrigate the treated area after application to disperse Mycotrol WPO into the soil. High insect populations, especially whitefly and aphids, may require application at 2-5 day intervals. For dip applications, dip a small number of plants in dip solution and observe for plant damage before using dip treatment. Do not use dips if there is any visible damage to test plants. 

Where to Use

Mycotrol WPO can be used in ornamentals and vegetables, indoor/outdoor nursery, greenhouse, shadehouse, commercial landscape, interiorscape and turf.

Turf such as Bermuda grass, blue grass, fescue, St. Augustine grass, and zoysia grass can be treated. 

When to Use

Begin treatment of crops at the first appearance of the insect pest.

Pre-harvest interval for this product is zero days. It can be applied up to and including the day of harvest.

Safety Information

Mycotrol WPO is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product. 

Keep people and pets out of the treated area until the spray has dried.

Intense pest outbreaks may require a combination of Mycotrol WPO with a compatible insecticide.
