Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer
Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer is a liquid, non-selective, horticultural vinegar biopesticide that eliminates liverworts, broadleaf, and grassy weeds in crops, turfs, and ornamentals. This product provides a 4x stronger formula than average table vinegar and is free of chemicals typically found in most weed killers.
Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer, manufactured by PF Harris, is a high-strength horticultural herbicide that quickly eliminates weeds upon contact and decomposes swiftly into the soil without the use of glyphosate. This chemical is typically found in most weed control products.
As a foliar contact biopesticide, this product will shrivel or dry treated foliage immediately upon contact, as its active ingredient is acetic acid 20.0%.
Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer is an easy-to-apply product containing an organic acid that is approved for use in organic production.
Tools Needed
You will need a handheld pump sprayer or backpack sprayer. When making broadcast applications, use a hooded sprayer, shielded, or other spray equipment that prevents spray movement from the target.
Do not use this product in aerial applications or irrigation systems.
How to Use

- Step 1: Mow to a height of 4 to 6 inches and remove cut vegetation before applying this product. Determine how much Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer to use by calculating the square footage of the area to treat. To do this, measure the treatment areas' length and width in feet and then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). General applications will use 44 to 88 oz. (1.375 to 2.75 quarts) of product per 1,000 sq. ft. For dense or heavy weed infestations, use the highest rate. For liverworts, dilute this product at a rate of 1 gallon of this product to 2 gallons of water.
- Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer with the appropriate amount of product. Close the sprayer tank lid and pump the sprayer a few times to produce a low-pressure spray.
- Step 3: On a low pressure fan setting, spray the Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer directly to the top and bottom of the weeds leaves until thoroughly wet. Do not exceed a pressure 35 PSI. If treated along the side of crop plants, shielded or hooded sprayers must be used to avoid crop injury.
Where to Use
Use Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer to control weeds that surround food crops, nonfood crops (ornamentals), non-production agricultural, farmstead, right-of-way, institutional land sites, interstate freeways/highways, federal and state highways, city/county rods, walkways, railroad vacant lots, botanical and private association ornamental gardens, kennels, dog runs, animal enclosures, woody ornamentals, potted plants, foliage plants, greenhouses, shadehouses.
This product may not be broadcast within a growing crop but only to weeds growing between crop rows. For all tree and fruit crops, spray must be directed underneath the crop canopy.
When to Use
Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer can treat emerged weeds up to two days before harvest. Best results are achieved from applications to young, actively growing weeds that are still in the 3 to 5-leaf stage. For best results, spray on dry leaves at temperatures between 50 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit and when rainfall is not forecasted 24 hours after application.
Safety Information
Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.
Spray nozzles need to be plastic or 316 stainless steel as this product will eventually corrode any other metal.
Special Consideration
Applying weeds to turf will kill the surrounding turf. As a non-selective product, Harris 20% Vinegar Weed Killer will eliminate any contacted vegetation, including crop plants.
