Golden Malrin Fly Bait
Golden Malrin Fly Bait
Golden Malrin was manufactured by Starbar Products and was a granular insecticide scatter bait designed to get rid of nuisance fly invasions in farm areas. Golden Malrin flybait contained the active ingredient Methomyl and Muscamone Fly attractant which was excellent in attracting and killing house flies.
Golden Malrin came ready to use and was easy to apply as a scatter bait or in bait stations for fly control.
Tools Needed
To use Golden Malrin Fly Bait, you don't need any tools as it can easily be sprinkled onto surfaces directly from the container but if you wish you could use a hand spreader.
How to Use
- Step 1: Observe and note the areas where you have noticed fly activity and then calculate the size of the area you would like to treat. To do this, you will need to measure (in feet) and multiply the area length times the width (length x width = square footage). The use rate for Golden Malrin Fly Bait is 4 oz. per 500 sq. ft. So for example, if you measured a 1,500 sq. ft. area to treat, you would need 12 oz. of product to cover the area sufficiently.
- Step 2: Begin to scatter the bait directly from the container onto dry surfaces low to the ground. Alternatively, you can place the bait in a bait station. Input a small amount of bait, around 1 oz in each station. Secure them 4 feet above the ground to keep animals, children and pets away from the bait.
- Step 3: Reapply every 2 to 3 days to maintain adequate fly control.
Where to Use
Golden Malrin Bait may be used as a scatter bait only around the outside of certain commercial agricultural production facilities where children or pets will not be present, specifically feedlots, broiler houses, and livestock barns. around the outside of the following commercial facilities: canneries, beverage plants, meat and poultry processing plants, food processing plants, and commercial refuse dumpsters which are fenced or otherwise enclosed. Do not use around commercial dumpsters which are not enclosed. Do not use around dumpsters in residential settings.
When to Use
Use Golden Malrin Fly Bait whenever you are encountering an infestation of flies. Time applications to begin at the start of the season before fly numbers grow to their peak.
Safety Information
Golden Malrin Fly Bait is safe to use around pets and kids. Keep them off of treated surfaces until dry.

For areas where granular bait is not as effective, you can use Maxforce Flyspot Fly Bait.

Q:How is it applied?9/16/18A:Golden Malrin Fly Bait has been discontinued by the manufacturer due to EPA restrictions. We recommend Maxforce Fly Baits as a very good alternative. Q:Has the active ingredient changed in recent years? We always had significant results in the past. I just purchased a 1# container of Golden Malrin. Almost a week of exposure and not a single dead fly. Our population is as bad if not worse.8/22/17A:No, the active ingredient has not changed in the Golden Malrin. Are you seeing any flies attracted to the bait? If there is heavy pressure and a lot of other sources of food source and attractants, it can be hard to get them to the bait. Might be time to look at adding some glue sticks and a residual spray to get the population down. https://www.solutionsstores.com/reclaim-it-insecticide https://www.solutionsstores.com/catchmaster-gold-stick-fly-traps-large
