Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone
Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone
Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone, manufactured by VPG, is an easy to mix non-selective pesticide made to control a variety of broadleaf weeds and crabgrass in residential lawns.
To ensure a 100% elimination of weeds, Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone is a combination product of four proven weed killers: 2,4-D, mecoprop-p, dicamba and carfentrazone-ethyl.
Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone, is a recommendable fast acting product that can eliminate weeds in cool weather down to 40 degrees. This is not only ideal for cool-seasoned grasses, but warm-seasoned grasses as well.
Tools Needed
To use Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone you will need to use a handheld sprayer or backpack sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Delay mowing 1 to 2 days before and after application of Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone. Determine how much Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone you will need by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Do this by measuring the length and width, and then multiplying them together (length x width = square feet). For cool-seasoned grasses, apply between 1.5 to 2.0 fl. oz. of Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For warm-seasoned grass, mix between 0.75 to 1.5 fl. oz. of product per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For example, if you have an area measured to be 1,350 sq. ft. then you will multiply it by the recommended rate for either cool-seasoned or warm-seasoned grass (1350 sq. ft. X 1.5 fl. oz. = 20.25 fl. oz. of product to use). For specific foliage rates refer to the label. The maximum application rate is 3.0 fl. oz. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. per application. Broadcast applications may only be made twice a year. The maximum seasonal rate is 6.0 fl. oz. of product per 1,000 sq. ft., excluding spot treatments.
- Step 2: Place half of the required amount of water into your selected sprayer, then add the measured amount of Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone, and fill the rest of the way with the other half of water. Close the lid to sprayer and agitate until mixture is even.
- Step 3: With your sprayer of choice, carefully spray the undesired foliage until wet on both sides of leaves, but not to the point of runoff. You will want to apply an even coarse spray pattern until the foliage in the treatment area is coated on both sides of the plants leaves. Refer to the label for reapplication restrictions for the type of foliage being treated for.
Where to Use
Use Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone on broadleaf weeds in warm-seasoned and cool-seasoned turf in residential and commercial neighborhoods. This product is best applied when rainfall is predicted within 24 hours. Rainfall or watering within 4 hours of application may reduce the products effectiveness.
Cool-seasoned grasses it may be used on: Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Tall Fescue, Red or Fine Leaf Fescues, Colonial Bentgrass, and Mixtures of Cool Season Species.
Warm-seasoned grasses it may be used on: Common Bermudagrass, Hybrid Bermudagrass, Bahiagrass, Zoysiagrass, Buffalograss, St. Augustinegrass, and Centipedegrass.
When to Use
Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone may be applied in the spring, summer, or fall. For best results, use this product when weeds are young and actively growing, typically this will be in the spring. Applications to foliage in the summer will not be as effective due to drought stressed weeds.
Summer application are best for thin weed populations not for dense infestations.
Do not apply this product to St. Augustinegrass during spring green-up which is the transition period between dormancy and active growth.
Safety Information
Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.
Do not allow pets or children to enter the treatment area until 24 to 48 hours have passed and the spray mixture has dried.
Special Considerations
The turfgrass tolerance to Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone may vary and temporary turfgrass yellowing may occur on St. Augustinegrass and certain varieties of Hybrid Bermudagrass.
