Tools Needed

To apply Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Food 19-8-10, you will need either a hand spreader or push spreader. We recommend using a push rotary (broadcast) spreader to ensure you get even coverage over the turf. You will also need a scale to help you measure the correct amount of fertilizer in pounds, and a measuring tool to measure your turf area.

How to Use

Spreading Fertilizer

  • Step 1: Determine how much Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Food 19-8-10 to use by measuring the size of the tree or shrub you intent to treat. To find the size of the shrub or tree, you will measure the distance around the tree trunk or the height of the shrub. Measure distance in inches around the tree trunk at chest height. If there are multiple tree trunks, add their measurements together. For example, if one tree has four trunks and they measure 20, 10, 5 and 5 inches they will have a total of 40 inches. Depending on the diameter of the tree the rates will vary. The application rate for Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Food 19-8-10 is between 1/4 to 3 lbs. per tree size diameter. For shrubs, you will apply 1/2 cup per square yard of soil area, which is from base of shrub to 2 feet beyond the widest spread of branches. For example, 1/2 inch diameter apply 1/4 lbs. of product.
  • Step 2: For either a hand or push spreader, you will load your selected spreader with the correct amount of Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Food 19-8-10 to treat your treatment area. Apply the fertilizer uniformly under to ground under the tree or shrub branches, carefully avoiding contact with trunk. Start applying by walking around the perimeter of your turf area, being careful to minimize fertilizer being thrown onto concrete or non-turf areas. Once you have completed your perimeter application, continue your application by walking down the length of your turf area in a back-and-forth motion.
  • Step 3: Water the treatment area thoroughly after application so the fertilizer can be washed into the soil. Apply no more than an inch of water to avoid Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Food 19-8-10 from being washed off.
