Drexel De-Ester LV4, manufactured by Drexel, is a pre and post-emergent herbicide that effectively controls numerous annual, biennial and perennial broadleaf weeds and certain woody plants without injury to most established grasses or certain crops.

This excellent emulsifiable concentrate features a 2,4-D Ester formulation that provides selective control over numerous glyphosate resistant weeds within 7 days of application.

Drexel De-Ester LV4 contains the active ingredient 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2-ethylhexyl ester 65.4% to deliver powerful control over a broad-spectrum of broadleaf weeds like cocklebur or carpetweed.

Tools Needed

To use Drexel De-Ester LV4, you will need a hand gun, boom or powered knapsack sprayer, spray rig, ground equipment, or aircraft.

For aerial applications, the boom length must not exceed 75% of the wingspan or 90% of the rotor blade diameter.

For crop uses, do not mix this product with oil or other adjuvants unless specifically directed on the product label.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Drexel De-Ester LV4 to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). When Drexel De-Ester LV4 is used for weed control in crops, the growth stage of the crop must be considered. Depending on the growth stage of the crop and type of crop, the rates will vary between 0.5 to 4.2 pint of Drexel De-Ester LV4 per 5 to 20 gallons of water per acre by ground equipment. For specific rates for crops, it would be best to refer to the product label. For ornamental turf, use 2 to 3.1 pints of product per 5-10 gallons of water per acre. On established pastures and rangelands, apply 2.1 pints or 4.2 pints of product per 5 to 10 gallons of water per acre. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
  • Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer with half the amount of water, add measured amount of Drexel De-Ester LV4, then pour in remaining half of water. Close the sprayer tank lid and shake until solutions is evenly mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray the Drexel De-Ester LV4 mixture on a 20 psi pressure until the top and bottom of weeds until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Do not apply this product where spray drift may contact nearby susceptible crops or other desirable plants or may contaminate water for irrigation or domestic use. Follow the label for specific intervals of when to water treated areas as it will vary with each application site.

Where to Use

Drexel De-Ester LV4 can be used for grass pastures, corn (all corn including field, pop, sweet), cereal grains (barley, oats, rye, wheat) not underseeded with legume, conservation reserve program (CRP) area pastures and rangeland (not in agricultural production), fallow land (crop stubble on idle land, post-harvest to crops or between crops), foresty management (forest site preparation, forest roadsides, brush control, established conifer release (including trees and reforestation areas), grass seed crops, non-crop areas (airfield, ditches, fencerows, hedgerows, highway and utility rights-of-way, industrial sites, railroads, roadsides, utlity power lines), ornamental turf (such as golf courses, parks, cemeteries, sports fields, turfgrass and other lawn and grass areas), red potatoes (grown for fresh market), milo sorghum, soybeans, and turf (grown for seed or sod).

When to Use

Depending on the application site and weed, the timing of the Drexel De-Ester LV4 will vary. Apply this product as water or spray oil during warm weather when weeds or brush are actively growing. For pre-emergent control, you will apply this product before weeds develop. For post-emergent control, this product can be applied when weeds are less than 1.5 inches tall.

Although this product is a low volatile formulation, at temperatures above 90°F vapors may damage susceptible crops growing nearby.

Do not apply Drexel De-Ester LV4 when rainfall is predicted 24 hours after application, and wait an interval of 30 days prior to planting cotton.

Safety Information

Drexel De-Ester LV4 is safe to use around pets and children when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated area until sprays have dried.

Special Considerations

Excessive amounts of Drexel De-Ester LV4 in the soil may temporarily inhibit seed germination or plant growth.
