BareSpot Ureabor, manufactured by Proserve, is an easy to use non-selective, residual herbicide that effectively eliminates the toughest annual and perennial weeds and grasses within a single treatment. This pelleted pre-emergent product should be applied with care since it will quickly eliminate any vegetation within its vicinity for up to one year.

BareSpot Ureabor has three active ingredients sodium metaborate 49.0%, sodium chlorate 30.0%, and bromacil 1.5%. Sodium metaborate provides long-term residual control over vegetation by eliminating microorganisms within the turf and reducing their effectiveness, thus stopping these organisms from breaking down BareSpot Ureabor. Sodium cholorate will quickly burn the vegetation until its leaves and stems curl and eventually die. The third active ingredient bromacil allows BareSpot Ureabor to break down easily into the soil to effectively control deep roots of annual and perennial weeds and grasses.

Once absorbed into the targeted plant roots it will work to eliminate the foliage and root system of weeds and grasses within several days. A residual barrier will remain active in the soil to control germinating weeds and seeds. BareSpot Ureabor is an ideal herbicide to use on areas with a long growing season and soils high in organic matter.

Tools Needed

You will need either a hand or push spreader to apply BareSpot Ureabor. You may also need a water hose to wet the granules after application.

How to Use

Spreading Fertilizer

  • Step 1: Determine how much BareSpot Ureabor to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To find this, you will multiply the length times the width (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage of the treatment area and divide it by 43,560 (square footage / 43,560 = acre). Apply between 1 to 1.5 lbs. of product per 100 sq. ft. for annual weed and grasses applications. For perennial weeds and grasses, apply 1.8 lbs. of product per 100 sq. ft. This product can only be applied once a calendar year and cannot exceed more than 1.8 lbs. of product per 100 sq. ft.
  • Step 2: Fill your selected spreader with the appropriate amount of BareSpot Ureabor with the correct setting for your specific spreader model (check the spreader manufacturer label for details). If unsure which setting to use with your spreader, you can test your spreader settings on 100 sq. ft. of pavement. You want to avoid applying this product onto turf to avoid unnecessary damage to lawn. You are aiming to apply 1 lb. of product per 100 sq. ft., so adjust your settings until this rate is reached.
  • Step 3: Begin broadcasting BareSpot Ureabor starting at the edge of the treatment area and walk all the way around the perimeter of the area at a steady pace. Then walk back and forth across the treatment area to cover the space in the middle. Water the lawn no more than inch to avoid unnecessary runoff and to active the product.

Where to Use

BareSpot Ureabor should only be used on non-crop and industrial areas like bleachers, bridge abutments, buildings, bunkers, buried cable closures, catwalks, compresor stations, cooling towers, cross connect boxes, electrical generators, fence lines, fire hydrants, plugs or walls, fuel tanks, generating plants, guardrails, helo pads, highwayand street markers, loading stations, lumber yards, microwave towers, oil and gas pipelines, oil refineries, parking lots, pump decks, railroad lines and sidings, runway lights, runways, sign posts, storage and equipment yards, utility poles and substations, vacant lots, valves and manifolds, waste lagoons or other similar non-cropped areas.

When to Use

Use BareSpot Ureabor once a year when weeds and grasses are young and actively growing. Typically, this will be at the beginning of spring.
