BareGround Ultra, manufactured by Proserve, is an ready to apply residual pelleted herbicide for control of annual and perennial weeds and grasses in non-crop areas.

As a three way combination of sodium metaborate 49.0 %, sodium chlorate 30.0%, and bromacil 1.5% it allows for complete residual control of shallow and deep rooted annuals and perennial plants. Once BareGround Ultra makes contact with the soil it will move easily into unwanted foliage and create a residual barrier in the soil to keep weeds from germinating and emerging in the soil for the rest of the year.

Tools Needed

To use BareGround Ultra you will need a push or hand spreader for easier control over applications. It is also helpful to have a hose to spray the granules into the soil after application.

How to Use

Spreading Fertilizer

  • Step 1: Determine how much BareGround Ultra to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, multiply the length and width of the treatment area together (length X width = square footage). To find acreage, take the square footage and divide by 43,560 sq. ft. (square footage / 43,560 = acre). For annual weeds and grasses, apply between 1 to 1.5 lbs. of BareGround Ultra per 100 sq. ft. For perennial weeds and grasses apply 1.8 lbs. of product per 100 sq. ft. For mixed annual and perennial weeds and grasses apply 1.8 lbs. of product per 100 sq. ft. Do not apply more than 1.8 lbs. of BareGround Ultra per 100 sq. ft.
  • Step 2: Pour the appropriate amount of BareGround Ultra into your selected spreader. Calibrate your spreader to the correct setting for your spreader model (check the label for details). If you are unsure which setting to use with your spreader, you can test your spreader settings on 100 sq. ft. of pavement. You will want to apply this to pavement to see your spreader swath and to avoid damaging your turf. You will want to apply at a rate of 1 lb. of product per 100 sq. ft. Adjust your spreader setting until this rate is reached.
  • Step 3: Apply BareGround Ultra starting at the edge of the treatment area and walk around the perimeter of the area at a steady pace. Then walk back and forth across the treatment area to cover the space in the middle. Lightly water the treatment area after BareGround Ultra has been applied with at least an inch of water, but avoid spraying to the point of run-off.

Where to Use

BareGround Ultra may only be used on non-crop and industrial areas such as bleachers, bridges, adbutments, buildings, bunkers, buried cable closures, catwalks, compressor stations, cooling towers, cross connection boxes, electrical generators, fence lines, fire hydrants, plugs or walls, fuel tanks, generating plants, guardrails, helo pads, highway and street markers, loading stations, lumber yards, microwave towers, oil and gas pipelines, oil refineries, parking lots, pump decks, railroad lines and sidings, runway lights, runways, sign posts, storage and equipment yards, utility poles and substations, vacant lots, valves and manifolds, waste lagoons or other similar non-crop areas.

When to Use

Apply BareGround Ultra anytime during the growing season. Typically, this product is best applied in the spring when weeds and grasses are still young and rapidly growing.

Safety Information

BareGround Ultra is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying this product.

Wait at least 48 hours or until product has dried before allowing children, pets, or other individuals from entering the treatment area.

Special Considerations

BareGround Ultra may not be used in any recreation areas or in and around residential homes.

BareGround Ultra is non-selective and will terminate or damage any lawns, trees, shrubs, crops, and other desired plants that come into contact with it. Avoid drift or inappropriate amount of application as it may render the entire treated area totally or partially unproductive for one or more years.
