Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control
Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control is a powerful EPA‑registered dye blend that shades water to stop algae and aquatic weed growth, boost clarity, and keep lakes, ponds, and other water sites healthy and beautiful.
04/10/26
Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control, manufactured by Sepro, is a unique aquatic treatment that doesn’t kill plants like traditional algaecides or herbicides but uses carefully balanced aquatic dyes to limit the sunlight aquatic plants need, slowing growth, reducing blooms, improving water clarity, and making aquatic areas easier to manage long-term.
It contains a carefully engineered blend of blue and yellow dyes that absorb specific wavelengths of light, reducing the energy aquatic plants need for photosynthesis and limiting their growth below the water’s surface. After application, the treated water takes on a light aqua-blue tint, providing not only functional benefits but also an attractive, visually appealing look, especially in ornamental, recreational, and golf course ponds.
Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control offers a unique, non-chemical approach to managing aquatic weeds and algae by targeting the one thing plants can’t live without light. Its unique blend of blue and yellow dyes limits photosynthesis without harming fish, disrupting ecosystems, or creating the problems associated with traditional chemical treatments.
Tools Needed
You can use a pourable container or apply this product directly from the product container.
How to Use
- Step 1: Calculate Your Water Volume. Measure the length, width, and average depth of your pond or water body in feet. Then, use the formula to find gallons: Length (ft) X Width (ft) × Average Depth (ft) × 7.5. Another formula you can use would be for acre-feet: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Average Depth (ft) / 43,560 sq. ft. To treat aquatic sites with 10,000 water gallon volume, use 0.2 fl. oz. of Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control. For aquatic areas with 1 acre-foot, use 7.9 fl. oz. of product. For aquatic areas with 4 acre-feet, use 32 fl. oz. of product. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Pour Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control around the shoreline water and/or in offshore areas from a boat. It will mix throughout the water on its own, however, more widespread application or aeration devices/fountains will provide quicker dispersion.
Where to Use
For use in natural and manmade contained lakes and ponds (ornamental, recreational, fish bearingor fish farming) with little or no outflow of water, golf course ponds, and watering turf.
When to Use
For best results, apply Aquashade Plus as a pre-emergent (prior to plant germination) before the growing season. It may even be applied directly onto ice cover, (where applicable).
Use during the growing season will suppress the rate and extent of underwater growth or algae bloom, but may not eliminate it. Aquashade Plus has reduced effectiveness in waters less than 2 feet deep and on matured submersed aquatic plants.
In freezing climates, it may be poured onto the ice in a 30foot (1-meter) diameter circle. It will melt a hole and disperse underneath. Be certain ice conditions are safe before making the application.
Safety Information
Aquashade Plus Aquatic Plant Growth Control is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Either allow at least one hour for this product to disperse throughout the water body before using water for swimming, irrigation or livestock watering, or avoid pouring concentrate within 50 ft. of these intake/use areas, allowing dye to self-disperse into them
Special Considerations
It does not control floating algae mats, free floating plants, or emergent (shoreline) vegetation. These plants can be physically removed or treated with an appropriate EPA-registered aquatic herbicide or algaecide if more complete control is desired.
