American Brand Permethrin Granules
04/01/26
American Brand Permethrin Granules, manufactured by American Brand, is a granular insecticide designed to control insects found in lawns and around homes or other structures against pests such as ants, spiders, fleas, and more.
When removing common insects like ants in lawns, simply use this pyrethrum-type insecticide in one swift application. Its powerful active ingredient, permethrin 0.25%, will work quickly to kill pests on contact and continue to repel them for up to four weeks.
American Brand Permethrin Granules offers fast and easy outdoor insect control to prevent turf damage and indoor pest activity such as foraging ants.
Tools Needed
To properly apply these insecticide granules, a push or hand spreader is needed. We recommend using the push spreader for broadcast applications and the hand spreader for small, localized applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how many American Brand Permethrin Granules to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet and multiply them together (length X width = square footage). The rate of application for insects on turfgrass and a barrier treatment around buildings is 3.2 oz of American Brand Permethrin Granules for each 100 sq. ft. area (5 ft. x 20 ft.) or 2 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. of area. For example, if you measured a 2,500 sq. ft. area to treat, you would need 5 lbs. of product. For heavy lawns such as St. Augustine grass, increase the rate to 3 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft., equal to 4.8 oz. per 100 sq. ft. Insects in the soil, like grubs, use 2 1/2 lbs. of product per 1000 sq. ft., equal to 109 lbs. per acre. To get rid of imported fire ants, gently apply 1 cup of granules over and 2 ft around each ant mound.
- Step 2: Pour the correct amount of product into the spreader and follow the product label to find the spreader settings.
- Step 3: Apply the American Brand Permethrin Granules to the treatment area. Walk with a steady pace to disperse the granules evenly. The best way is to do at least two pass-throughs perpendicular to one another. To perform a barrier treatment around listed buildings, apply a 3 to 5-foot barrier band of the product next to the building's foundation.
- Step 4: After complete application, lightly water the treated areas to help the granules penetrate the soil for maximum effect. Do not mow the treated area until the granules have been watered in. Repeat this product's application if new insects appear.
Where to Use
American Brand Permethrin Granules can be used outdoors on residential lawns, turfgrass, and as a barrier/band treatment around commercial buildings and homes.
When to Use
Apply when you first notice pests around or near the foundations of houses, commercial buildings, and lawns. For billbug control, apply when activity is first observed or when chewed or brown grass indicates damage from these insects. For white grub control except dung beetle, treat any time between late July and early October. Treat again in late summer or early fall if a second generation occurs.
When controlling for ants, apply this product in cool weather, 65 to 80 degrees in the early morning or late evening hours. Treat new ant mounds if they appear.
Apply this product when the grass is dry and when rainfall is not expected for 24 hours after application.
Safety Information
American Brand Permethrin Granules are safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when making applications or handling this product.
Keep people and pets out of the treated area until the granules have completely dried.
Special Considerations
High-pressure watering may cause ants to migrate, reducing the effectiveness of the American Brand Permethrin Granules.

| Keith's Pro Tip | "Insects can become resistant to insecticide granules over time. Suppose insects keep reappearing without the cause of rain diluting the product or for other known reasons. In that case, we suggest trying other control methods, such as using insecticide concentrates like Flex 10-10 or Reclaim I/T, in between granular applications." |
