Alligare MSM 60 DF Herbicide
MSM 60 Herbicide By Alligare is a special formulation that provides post-emergent and some pre-emergent control of broadleaf weeds and some annual grasses. It is applied to ornamental turfs, lawns, and other places requiring weed control. It is ideal to use on golf courses and residential areas.
09/23/25
MSM 60, manufactured by Alligare, is a water-dispersable granule herbicide that provides some pre-emergent control of weeds but is mainly used for post-emergent control of weeds and woody plants.
This herbicide, formulated with the active ingredient metsulfuron-methyl, eliminates a wide range of perennial and annual broadleaf and grassy weeds. It is an excellent choice when treating residential and recreational turfs and lawns with foxtail, clover, dollar weed, and more.
MSM 60 Herbicide can be applied through a professional skid sprayer to cover large areas, or it can be applied with a handheld pump sprayer for smaller jobs.
Tools Needed
You will need a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or professional skid sprayer is needed. We recommend using the handheld pump sprayer when treating small areas.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Alligare MSM 60 DF Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, divide the square footage by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For spot treatments in pastures and rangelands, apply 1 oz. of Alligare MSM 60 DF Herbicide per 100 gallons of water. Refer to the label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Begin agitating the sprayer and then add the correct amount of MSM 60 Herbicide to the spray tank. As soon as the MSM 60 Herbicide is thoroughly mixed in the water, begin adding more water to the spray tank. Continue the agitating process and add any additional label-approved ingredients at this time.
- Step 3: Apply to the top and bottom of weeds until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Another application may be needed within 4 to 6 weeks.
Where to Use
MSM 60 Herbicide can be applied to noncrop areas, conifer, and hardwood plantations. It may also be used for grain sorghum, wheat (including drum), barley, pasture, rangelands, grasses, and fallow.
Do not use on lawns, walks, driveways, tennis courts, or similar areas.
When to Use
MSM 60 Herbicide is most effective when applied to unwanted vegetation that is healthy and full of green leafy tissue. Do not apply to areas where non-targeted grasses or plants are sick with diseases.
Safety Information
MSM 60 Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of treated areas until the spray completely dries.
Special Considerations
Cold or frozen soil slows down the results of MSM 60 herbicide. When scheduling the application intervals, it is suggested to make the first application in spring to early summer. If applications are made in late summer, MSM 60 Herbicide should not be applied again until spring. The active ingredient MSM can potentially damage the root system of woody plants. Treating weeds with MSM 60 near ornamental plants and trees is not recommended.
