Acclaim Extra, manufactured by Bayer, is a professinal post-emergent herbicide that offers dependable control of annual and perennial grassy weeds without harming desirable turf and ornamentals.

Once this suspended concentrate is applied it becomes rainfast within an hour after drying. It's flexibility is further seen in its ability to control mid-to-late season growth of weeds like crabgrass, making it an versatile herbicide product.

Acclaim Extra provides quick killing of weeds in as little as 7 days and does so in a wide range of growth stages from spikes to 5 tillers.

Tools Needed

Acclaim Extra can be applied with a pressurized hydraulic sprayer, high volume handgun spray, handheld pump sprayer, or backpack sprayer.

How to Use

Applying acclaim extra

  • Step 1: Determine how much Acclaim Extra you need by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the treatment areas length and width in feet and multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For hand-held sprayer appliction for spot treatments, use 0.30 to 0.46 fl. oz. of Acclaim Extra per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Apply 0.30 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water when the grass weed is in the 1 to 4-leaf stage of growth. Apply 0.46 fl oz of product per gallon of water when the grass weed has 1 to 2-tillers.
  • Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer with half the amount of water, then add measured amount of Acclaim Extra, and pour remaining half of water into the spray tank. Close the spray tank lid and shake until is thoroughly mixed. If a surfactant is needed then add it your mixture last, and agitate the tank again until well-mixed.
  • Step 3: Apply the Acclaim Extra mixture to the top and bottom of the weed until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Do not mow treated areas for at least 24 hours to allow time for penetration and translocation into the grass weeds. The effectiveness of Acclaim Extra Herbicide is reduced when grass clippings interfere with thorough spray coverage of the target weeds. You may water turf and ornamentals 1 to 2 days before application or one day after application. Allow treated areas to thoroughly dry before any type of irrigation occurs.

Where to Use

Acclaim Extra can be used in and around turfgrass including sod farms, commercial and residential turf, and ornamentals.

Turfgrass that may be treated with this product are Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, fine fescue, tall fescue, annual bluegrass, Zoysia grass, and creeping bentgrass.

When to Use

Use Acclaim Extra during the growing season when unwanted weeds are growing on the property. The product is best applied when weeds are young and growing. Choose a calm day to apply Acclaim Extra to minimize the chances of wind drift.

Safety Information

Acclaim Extra is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Do not allow people or pets into the treated area until 24 hours have passed after application.

Special Considerations

Acclaim Extra is compatible in tank mixes with many other commonly used herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and fertilizers. Always follow the use directions in accordance with the respective labels.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH ACCLAIM
Its not effective at killing stiltgrass as the recommended dosage. If you increase the concentration a little, it will slowly kill it.

Works effectively as advertised.
I spot applied this product on my lawn to kill Japanese stilt grass a few weeks ago. It appears to be working great and doesn't affect surrounding grass (primarily fescue).

Note that it takes around 10 to 14 days for the stilt grass to start changing color.

Due to the narrow leaves of stilt grass, it's difficult to insure that the spray stays on all leaves. I didn't use a surfactant. As a result, I have a little bit to spray again but that can wait to next year.

Acclaim Plus is a great selective herbicide for crabgrass and barnyard grasses.
Finally found a product selective herbicide that will kill barnyard grasses and crabgrass. The crabgrass killer from Lowe's/Home DePot would never completely kill the crabgrass and didn't even touch the barnyard grasses. I bought Acclaim Plus from this company and it worked like a charm. It completely killed the crabgrass and all the barnyard grasses without killing the good grass. I now have good grass growing up through the old dead patches of crab and barnyard. Amazing stuff! My yard looks amazing!

Works as effectively as a PennDOT Road Crew.
This container is small but you don’t need much. It takes a while to notice your crabgrass dying. It seems the crabgrass stops growing and then dies.

  10. Q:I have Japanese stilt grass. How much solution do I add to a one gallon tank sprayer?
    6/7/18
A:I mix 1tsp per gallon of water. In the July / August heat I mix .5tsp per gallon of water when the lawn is subjected to heat stress. Be patient, you see results in 2 weeks and dead crab grass in 2-3 weeks. It’s slow but deadly on stiltgrass but preserved by Kentucky bluegrass
