Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide, manufactured by Quali-Pro, is a selective, pre-emergent herbicide designed to fight against weed seeds and prevent them from growing in both established or newly seeded turf.

Same mode of action and low-odor granule as Ronstar, with the exception of the granules being larger in size for better distribution and visual confirmation in treatment area. This granule herbicide contains the active ingredient oxadiazon 2.0%, which works by killing seeds of targeted weeds underneath the soil at a rapid rate for excellent coverage and control.

Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide is a long-lasting pre-emergent herbicide that controls weeds and grasses through the shoot without harming roots of desired foliage. Not to mention it can readily be applied to both established and newly transplanted plants, and both actively growing or dormant plants.

Tools Needed

To apply Oxadiazon 2G, a handheld spreader, push spreader or professional tow behind broadcast spreader is needed. For smaller turfs a push spreader is recommended. For small spot treatments, a handheld spreader is suggested.

How to Use

Broadcasting Granules

  • Step 1: Determine how much Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Do this by measuring the length and width of the treatment area in feet the multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). Depending on your turf species, you may be using anywhere from 2 1/4 to 4 1/2 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. or 100 to 200 lbs. per acre depending on the weed you wish to treat. For St. Augustinegrass, do not exceed 150 lbs. per acre.
  • Step 2: Fill your selected spreader with the correct amount of granulated herbicide and adjust the spreader settings to the proper calibration for your spreader type.
  • Step 3: Push the spreader around the perimeter of the turf at a steady pace and work your way to the middle dispersing the granules evenly to dry foliage. Water the treated areas as soon as possible after the application process. For continued weed control, additional application of Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) may be made 60 to 120 days after the previous application for labeled established container-grown plants, newly transplanted container-grown, field-grown established and newly transplanted plants.

Where to Use

Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) can be applied to annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in commercial turf and woody ornamental shrubs, vines, trees, fairways, parks, and golf courses.

Commercial turf such as perennial Bluegrass, Bermudagrass, perennial Ryegrass, St. Augustinegrass, Tall Fescue, and Zoysia turf may be treated with this product.

Not for use on home lawns.

When to Use

The right time to use Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) varies, depending on the type of vegetation being controlled and where applications will be made. For the best results when treating turfs, apply Oxadiazon 2G to label during early spring before the germination of weed seeds.

When applying Oxadiazon 2G to woody ornamental shrubs, vines, and trees, applications can be made anytime during the year before weed germination begins.

Do not apply this product to newly seeded areas. Seeding into treated areas should be delayed until 4 months after treatment.

Outstanding Weed Control
We were first introduced to Ronstar by a contractor who built a house for us in California. Home completed in October, construction grading left bare earth around our home. Landscaping to occur in the Spring. Our contractor warned us that weeds would pop up in the Spring and we wouldn't be happy. He recommended Ronstar. We purchased some and applied it per instructions. The following Spring - no weeds! That was 1990, and to date we have consistently used this product over the years with great success. A friend, who retired as a landscape Gardner at our state Capitol confided to me that they too use Ronstar for weed control. We now own a home in another state and Ronstar is a part of our routine there. It works on the lawn without destroying it and amongst established plants as well.Use of the product reduces labor and we've never paid a cent for a Gardner. We have been customers of Epest Solutions for several years now and find their price the cheapest and items shipped quickly....they've earned our respect and continued business.

  1. Q:Can I apply this to my soil before I plant centipede sod? It says do not use on centipede but I am not sure if that just means established centipede turf.
    3/15/23
A:Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) is a pre-emergent herbicide meaning it will reside in the soil and turf for up to 4 months after application. Keep in mind that Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) will kill Centipedegrass. Otherwise I would not recommend installing centipede sod in areas where Oxadiazon 2G Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Ronstar) was applied previously.
