Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide
Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide
Cutrine Plus Granular Herbicide is an easy to use herbicide that effectively controls a broad range of weeds and algae on water bodies. The granular formulation makes it so there's no mixing or spraying required.
Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide, manufactured by Applied Bio Chemists, is a fast-acting granule algaecide that is capable of controlling a broad-spectrum of algae species such as Chara, Nitella, Filamentous, and Hydrilla.
Due to its double-chelated active ingredient Copper ethanolamine complex 10.7%, and its combination of slow and rapid release granules it will quickly sink to the bottom of labeled water sites like ponds or potable water reservoirs to immediately attack algae and aquatic weed growth.
Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide immediatley destroys algae species in 1 to 2 days upon contact and stays in the water far longer, offering more long-term control against algae and Hydrilla infestations. This product should not be confused with its liquid form Cutrine Plus Algaecide, which is labeled more for surface algae infestations than bottom dwelling like Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide.
Tools Needed
Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide is ready to use right out of the bag. The only tool you will need is a plastic scoop or spreader to distribute the granules.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide you will need to treat your waterbody. To do this, calculate the surface area by measuring (in feet) the surface length and the width and then dividing by 43,560 to get the surface acreage. For small area spot treatments, the rate is 1.5 lbs. of Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide per 1,000 square feet. (In areas less than 1 ft. deep, reduce dosage by 2 oz. per inch of water per 1,000 sq. ft. so as to not exceed 1.0 ppm copper). For larger treatments, the rate varies from 20 lbs. to 210 lbs. of product per surface acre depending on the height of plant growth and the type of algal growth (refer to label).
- Step 2: Using a plastic scoop or granular spreader, measure out the appropriate amount of Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide needed to uniformly broadcast the granular herbicide evenly over the water's surface.
- Step 3: Spread the Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide along the shore and proceed outwards in bands to allow fish to move into untreated areas. No more than 1/2 of the water body may may be treated at one time. Multiple applications may need to be required to maintain season long control on algae. Re-apply Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide as new growth reappears, but allow 14 days to pass between each application before reapplying this product.
Where to Use
Apply Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide in lakes, potable water reservoirs, ponds, fish hatcheries, and around docks, rafts, or water intakes.
Do not use in waters containing Koi and hybrid goldfish. Not intended for use in small volume, garden pond systems.
When to Use
For best results, apply Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide early on the morning of a calm, sunny day with water temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer. Contact time should be at least 3 hours. Bright sunlight will improve effectiveness.
Safety Information
Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
This product may be toxic to trout and other species of fish. Fish toxicity is dependent upon the hardness of water. Do use in water containing trout if the carbonate hardness of the water does not exceed 50ppm.
For applications in waters destined for use as drinking water, those must receive additional and separate potable water treatment. Do not apply more than 1.0 ppm as metallic copper in these waters
Special Considerations
Waters treated with Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide may be used for swimming, fishing, drinking water treatment, livestock watering or irrigating turf, ornamental plants or crops following treatment.

Keith's Pro Tips | "The earlier you treat the algae and aquatic weed growth the better. If you treat your algae when growth first appears, it will drastically reduce the amount of Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide you need for season long control. Early treatment will also reduce the amount of dead growth." |
Product Drawbacks | Heavy, out of control growth may require more than one treatment or physical removal to gain control. |
Target Pests | Cutrine-Plus, under field conditions, is effective in controlling a broad range of algae including: Chara, Spirogyra, Cladophora, Vaucheria, Ulothrix, Microcystis and Oscillatoria. Q:Have a customer with a pond has filamentous algae. Will this take care of it?9/5/17A:A. LARGE AREA TREATMENT (over 5,000 sq. ft.) 1. Identify form(s) of targeted bottom-growing algae (Chara / Nitella or Filamentous) or Hydrilla. 2. Estimate the height of targeted plant growth (in ft.) in the water column. This would be the distance from bottom to top of plants. 3. Calculate surface area (acres) of the treatment area (area of infestation) using the following formula: Length (ft.) x Width (ft.) 43,560 = Surface Acre(s) 4. Refer to Table 1 to determine lbs. of CUTRINE-PLUS GRANULAR ALGAECIDE to apply per surface acre based upon type and height of targeted growth.
