Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide, manufactured by Alligare, eliminates unwanted vegetation from various types of land. This pellet formulation works as a pre-and post-emergent on many kinds of trees, shrubs, and vines to prevent the land from being removed.

This product is applied to the ground, where rainfall activates the pellets to penetrate the soil. It then kills seedlings and the root system to prevent further growth.

Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide provides up to one year of control of woody vegetation. It is ideal for rangelands, pastures, and other land spaces where wooded plants can ruin habitats and grasslands.

Tools Needed

To make applications, a ground spreader or aerial application equipment is needed. It can also be applied by hand for spot treatments.

How to Use

Filling a spreader

  • Step 1: Determine how much Tebuthiuron 20P you will need by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. You can do this by measuring the length and width of the treatment area in feet and multiplying them together (length x width = square footage). To calculate acreage, divide the square footage by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). On non-croplands, Tebuthiuron is applied at a rate of 3/8 oz. to 1 1/8th oz. per 100 sq. ft. or the equivalent broadcast rate of 10 to 30 pounds per acre.  For example, if you have measured a 3,000 sq. ft. treatment area using the 3/8 oz. you would need 11.25 ounces of Tebuthiuron to cover your entire area.
  • Step 2: Pour the correct amount of Tebuthiuron into a spreader based on the target weed you wish to treat and the area being treated.
  • Step 3: Spread the Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide evenly across the land. It can be applied by hand around Individual plants or small areas of woody vegetation. Areas that receive less than 20 inches of rainfall per year will only need 5 pounds of product per acre.

Where to Use

Applying Tebuthiuron granules with a spreader

Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide is used on rangelands, non-cropland areas, along fence lines, rights-of-way, permanent grass pastures, and places around wildlife habitats that need clearing.

When to Use

It can be applied anytime during the year unless the ground is frozen or thoroughly saturated with water. For the best results, it should be used before active growth in the spring or before seasonal rains. Higher applications should be made during late summer and fall in areas that receive more than 25 inches of yearly rainfall. It is suggested to make applications during the dormant season to prevent the effects from damaging desired grasses.

Safety Information

Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment when mixing and applying this product.

Do not feed treated hay to livestock for 1 year.

It is not to be used in residential areas.
