Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide (formerly known as Imazapyr 2 SL Herbicide), manufactured by Alligare, is a non-selective herbicide used to control hard-to-eliminate vegetation such as water hyacinth in water and weeds like crabgrass on land. While it has many properties as its previous label, its new, improved condition includes its use within aquatic sites.

When sprayed directly on the plant, it will absorb into the leaves through the stem and to the roots, causing the plant to die within several days. While exceptional, this emulsifiable concentrate can be mixed with a surfactant for a stronger residual for up to 120 days.

Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide can be applied using various methods, so large or small areas can be rapidly cleared of unsightly plant growth on land and water or for a complete bare-ground treatment.

Tools Needed

For applications, a stainless steel, fiberglass, plastic, or plastic-lined handheld sprayer or skid sprayer is needed.

When applied post-emergent to weeds, Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide may require a surfactant.

How to Use

applying herbicide

  • Step 1: Determine how much Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, divide the square footage by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). For directed or spot spray applications, use 0.6 fl. oz. (0.5% concentration) to 6.5 fl. oz. (5% concentration) per 1 gallon of water. Spot applications in grass pasture and rangelands will use 2 to 48 fl. oz. of product per acre. Spot applications to grass pasture and rangeland may not exceed more than one-tenth of the area to be grazed or cut for hay. This product can be applied at 1 to 6 pints per acre for aquatic uses, depending on the species present and weed density. Do not apply more than 48 fluid ounces per acre per year or 6 pints of product per acre, depending on the application site.
  • Step 2: Fill the spray tank halfway with the required amount of water and add the correct amount of product. Pour the remaining half of the water into the spray tank and shake until a solution is thoroughly mixed. If needed, add the surfactant and shake again until thoroughly mixed in with the solution.
  • Step 3: Apply the mixed Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide solution to unwanted weeds and plants until moist, but do not spray to the point of runoff. For brush up to 4 feet tall, spray downward to cover approximately 70% of the plant foliage and the crown. For brush 4 to 8 feet tall, apply a directed spray in a smooth vertical motion from the crown upward on at least two sides of the target vegetation, making sure to cover the crown whenever possible. For a brush over 8 feet tall, apply a directed spray in a smooth zig-zag motion from the crown upward on at least two sides of the target brush. Do not apply near-wanted vegetation, as it can still soak up into the root system and cause damage.

Where to Use

Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide can be used on undesirable vegetation in grass pastures and rangeland and for establishing and maintaining wildlife openings (except in California). For control of unwanted vegetation in unimproved industrial non-cropland Bermudagrass and Bahiagrass, and industrial non-cropland areas such as railroad, utility, pipeline and highway rights-of-way, utility plant sites, petroleum tank farms, pumping installations, transmission lines, fence rows, storage areas, around commercial and industrial building perimeters, non-irrigation ditch banks, access roads, airfields, airports, industrial bare ground areas, and under paved surfaces.

It may also be used on emergent and floating aquatic vegetation in and around standing and flowing water, including estuarine and marine sites. It can also be used for vegetation growing in or around surface water in wetland, riparian, and terrestrial habitats. It can be used for cut stump, cut stem, frill, and girdle treatments within aquatic sites.

Do not use this product on lawns, walks, driveways, tennis courts, or similar areas where roots of desirable vegetation may extend and be exposed to potential injury and mortality from root uptake of Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide. Nor on Christmas trees and food crops.

When to Use

This product can be used when unwanted post-emergent vegetation is evident. For pre-emergent applications, make them before or after mowing. If applied before mowing, allow at least three days of active growth before mowing. If used following mowing, allow sufficient time for the grasses to recover before applying Ecomazapyr 2 SL, or injury may be amplified.

The product's performance may be reduced if rainfall occurs within 2 hours of application.

Safety Information

Ecomazapyr 2 SL Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.

There are no grazing restrictions following the application of this product.

DO NOT cut forage grass for hay for seven days after application of this product.
