Mosquito Bits Quick Kill, manufactured by Summit, is an effective form of mosquito larvae control in areas where mosquitoes breed and become a nuisance.

This organic larvicide is in the form of corn cob granules coated in the active ingredient BTI 2.86%, a highly selective microbial insecticide effective against mosquitoes.

Simply sprinkle the Mosquito Bits Quick Kill in areas of standing water. The bits eventually release the active ingredient over the water's surface, where it is eaten by the mosquito larvae, who die within 24 hours. Mosquito Bits is a solid option for a safe method of controlling mosquitoes without spraying pesticides.

Tools Needed

Mosquito Bits Quick Kill comes ready to use, but it may require a teaspoon, hand spreader, tablespoon, or a spreader to evenly sprinkle the bits onto the water.

Teaspoons and tablespoons cannot be reused for eating purposes or other means.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Analyze your yard and observe where you see stagnant water or water accumulation. Determine how much Mosquito Bits Quick Kill to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment site in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For smaller areas of standing water around the home, evenly sprinkle 1 teaspoon of Mosquito Bites Quick Kill per 25 sq. ft. of water or 1 teaspoon of product per 75 sq. ft. of water. For larger areas of standing water around the home, use 4 oz. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. of water for relatively clean water and a higher application rate of 8 oz. per 1000 sq. ft. for water with greater organic content, deep, or polluted water, and when larger mosquito larvae are present. To get rid of fungus gnat larvae, apply 4 tablespoons of product per 1 gallon of water.
  • Step 2: Load the proper amount of Mosquito Bits Quick Kill into your spreader, tablespoon, or teaspoon. Stand directly on the edge of the water or above the area to be treated. Its recommended to apply to water edges early in the day to allow the waves to push the product further into the center.
  • Step 3: For fungus gnat treatments, soak the Mosquito Bits Quick Kill for 30 minutes and skim off the floating granules. Granules may be placed in a nylon stocking prior to immersion in water. Stir or shake the water, then apply treated water directly to the soil or growing media surface.
  • Step 4: Reapply Mosquito Bits Quick Kill every 7 days at a high rate when there are abundant mosquito larvae and when the water has suspended or settled organic matter. Repeat treatments every 14 days at a lower rate when there are few mosquito larvae and little organic matter in the water. If fungus gnat larvae are still present, then repeat the application weekly for three weeks.

Where to Use

Mosquito Bits Quick Kill should be applied to standing water around homes and residential properties such as the following sites: water gardens, pools, funeral urns, old automobile tires, flower pots and saucers, roof gutters, unused cisterns, unused swimming pools, bird baths, tree holes, animal watering troughs, ditches, rain barrels and other water storage containers, bromeliads or pitcher plants that hold water, and woodland pools and any stagnant water where mosquito larvae occur.

This product will also control fungus gnat larvae in growing media or soil in houses, gardens, landscape plants, and home mushroom beds.

When to Use

Use Mosquito Bits when mosquitoes are active, especially after rainfall when there may be a lot of different areas around your yard where water has accumulated (bird baths, puddles, ditches, old tires etc.)

Safety Information

Mosquito Bits Quick Kill is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling or applying this product.

Mosquito Bits Quick Kill may be applied to areas that contain aquatic life, fish, and plants and to areas used by or in contact with humans, animals, horses, livestock, pets, birds, or wildlife.
