Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide, manufactured by Bayer, is a ready to use insecticide dust that provides immediate pest control against stinging and flying insects with little application effort.

Formulated with the active ingredient cyfluthrin 1%, which attacks the pests nerves either through contact or ingesting allowing for a faster kill of pests like hornets, silverfish, and more. Simply dust this product in labeled sites such as around homes and stores or directly into tight voids with its easy puffer design for long-lasting insect control.

Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide has excellent penetration into hard-to-reach indoor and outdoor surfaces ensuring equal coverage at minimum application rates. This all around dust insecticide provides a 10 day residual effect against a variety of perimeter pests like ants or wasps without staining treated sites.

Tools Needed

Bulb Duster

To apply Tempo 1% Dust Inseciticide, you will need a handheld duster or power duster.

How to Use

Using a bulb duster

  • Step 1: Determine how much Tempo 1% Dust Inseciticide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width  of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Apply 0.5 to 1 lb. of Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide per 1,000 sq. ft. For ant mounds, use 2 teaspoons of product per mound.
  • Step 2:  Remove the rubber top of the duster and then fill the duster half-way with Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide and place the rubber top back on the duster and flip it over so that the bulb is facing down and the straw is above it.
  • Step 3: Remove the tip of the straw and gently squeeze the bulb of the duster. When applying Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide make sure the applications are light and uniform. Ideally you shouldn't see visible powder where applied. Apply dust in cracks and crevices, wall voids, and around plumbing. For ant mound applications, avoid disturbing the mound before applying. If possible, treat all colonies in the area. Distribute the product evenly over each mound and around the perimeter of the mound (about 18 inches from the outer edge) use the higher rates for larger mounds. For best results, water mounds gently after applying. High water pressure will cause the ants to move the mound.
  • Step 4: Reapply Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide every 7 to 10 days as needed for continuous pest activity.

Where to Use

Applying Dust

Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide can be used indoors and outdoors of animal quarters and kennels, apartment buildings, bakeries, bottling facilities, breweries, cafeterias, candy plants, cereal processing and manufacturing plants, correctional facilities, dairies and dairy product processing plants, day care centers, food plants, grain mills, granaries, greenhouses (structures only), grocery stores and supermarkets, hospitals (see restrictions), hotels and motels, houses, industrial buildings and installations, kitchens, laboratories, livestock housing structures, manufacturing establishments, mausoleums, pet kennels, meat and produce canneries, mobile homes and recreational vehicles, nursing homes (see restrictions), pickle factories, restaurants, schools (see restrictions), spice plants, stores and institutions, theaters, utility vaults and conduits, warehouses, wineries and similar structures, zoos, transportation vessels such as aircraft (see restrictions), buses, trucks, trailers, rail cares, and marine vessels.

When to Use

Apply Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide when pests are seen or found. During outdoor applications, apply this product in calm weather when rain is not predicted for the next 24 hours after application.

You may also help avoid stings by treating wasp and bee nests in the evening when the insects are less active and are inside the nest.

Safety Information

Tempo 1% Dust Insecticide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product.

In living areas, avoid deposits on exposed surfaces and avoid introducing the dust into the air.

Keith's Pro Tips"Most insecticide dusts come with an applicator tip on the top of the bottle. This can be used to make some applications, but will not be as effective as using a handheld or power duster. Using a duster will push the dust further into wall voids and in areas where wood boring insects hide. "
Product DrawbacksTempo 1% Dust Insecticide is not effective against flies or mosquitoes, because the most likely will not come in contact with dusted areas. For these insects, we suggest using an insecticide spray that provides a residual effect, such as Flex 10-10.

Killed them hornets............FAST!
Thanks Solutions Pest & Lawn for fast shipping and fair value. Tempo is extremely easy to use and highly effective against the hornets that had made a home in my house's foundation. I went out at about 2AM and used a duster to fill the crack in the door frame that they used to enter. The next day, after one application they were all dead.

Great Product -Long Shelf Life
Two hours ago I treated a nest of yellowjackets behind my aluminum siding. Activity is down from a frantic swarm to an occasional one or two. The product is 7 years old and still effective. Can't beat that.

Great for wasps and yellowjackets
This works great at killing wasps in hard to reach places. Make sure you use a mask because you don’t want to inhale the powder. The bottle leaked a little bit in transit & ruined the mask I bought with this. I contacted customer service regarding this and they promptly sent me a replacement mask (w/o haveing to return the mask that got the poison on it). In the future they should bag the poison when sending with other items so this doesn’t happen again. Great company though.

Highly Effective on Yellow Jackets in Difficult Access Locations
Excellent product for yellow jackets in difficult-to-access locations! I've always been able to easily kill off the ground nests by mixing up a small batch of dilute permethrin for a liquid sprayer and raining a stream of it into the nest from 10-15' away out of danger, even at mid=day, which always works. But this time they built inside a wall, accessing from an upper corner of the window in an open out-building where we keep the chicken feed. I first learned of them after my wife used a can of spray, killing a few, but no impact on the nest. Then I did my usual, but the liquid spray just wouldn't go up and get where it was really needed. Next I set up the shop vac with soapy water but by now they were so aggressive, I couldn't set it up even at night. So I bought a can of Enforcer Wasp & Yellow Jacket Foam, which helped me set up the vacuum at night without getting stung. Ran it starting the next morning, and sucked up about 1500, then 500 next day, and ~100 each day after as new ones would keep hatching out (>3000 by vacuuming). That was good for reducing the population, but I needed some way to KILL the nest. I did quite a bit of research and decided I needed a pesticide dust that they would track around to really kill the nest. I read lots of product reviews before I bought Tempo and concluded that some other dust products just didn't have the effectiveness (e.g. permethrin, mixed reviews) or shelf life (e.g. deltamethrin, ineffective after 3 years on the shelf). I don't want a short shelf life, since that just creates waste that I have to dispose of and replace! One review said he could have used just a teaspoon, so that was my goal. (Don't want to use any more of a pesticide than necessary!) Problem with most dusters I saw advertised was you couldn't see how much you were using, so I made my own out of a transparent condiment dispenser, hot-glued a straw inside of the nozzle to feed powder from the bottom of the dispenser when I squeeze. Tested it with baking soda, and it worked great! So I added aquarium tubing to the tip so I could feed it up the crack into the nest. I shot just 1 teaspoon of the Tempo dust up in there late one morning (after running the vacuum so I was safe). By 5pm I only saw 1 go in, and by evening no more traffic. No more activity by the next day, except for ones accumulating on the floor, which are probably the new adults as they emerge from their pupa and get poisoned.

A:You probably wouldn't need to but, if you have annual problems with this sort of thing get yourself a duster that mounts on a adjustable length pole as i did and you will be able to stay far enough away and conquer any task especially yellow jackets. Works great!
