Martin's TopShot Herbicide Weed Killer is manufactured by Control Solutions and is liquid herbicide used to control various types of weeds that destroy lawns by robbing the grass of sunlight and nutrients. TopShot is a dual-action weed killer that allows the active ingredient, metsulfuron-methyl, to absorb through the leaves and roots, to stop cell division and ensure weed eradication. It is also a selective weed killer, making it ideal to treat lawns without killing the grass.

Martin's TopShot Herbicide Weed Killer is great to use on St. Augustine grass, zoysiagrass, centipede grass, bermudagrass, and many others. It comes with 2 ampules for easy mixture and application to treat up to 5,000 square feet.

Tools Needed

To use Martin's TopShot, you will need a pump-up sprayer or an adjustable rate hose-end sprayer with at least a 16 oz. capacity.

How to Use

Mixing Topshot in a sprayer

  • Step 1: First, measure the square footage of the area you want to treat. You can do this by multiplying the length and width together (length x width = square footage). This will determine how many ampules of TopShot you will need. For areas that are 2,500 square feet or smaller, you need 1 ampule of TopShot. For areas that are larger (up to 5,000 square feet), you will need 2 ampules. It is best to only treat 2.500 square feet at a time by measuring your treatment area. If applying to more than that, repeat mixing and spraying procedure for the other 2,500 square feet.
  • Step 2: If using a hose-end sprayer, first attach the sprayer to the end of your hose. Remove the sprayer's bottle, add TopShot, and then fill the bottle with 16 ounces of water. Reattach the bottle and shake to mix well. If using a pump sprayer, fill the tank halfway with water, squeeze the ampule inside the tank, then fill the remaining amount of water. Shake well to ensure a thorough mix.
  • Step 3: After you have created your solution, you can begin your application. Spray Martin's TopShot Herbicide Weed Killer evenly onto the entire lawn, being sure to coat the turf. You do not want to over-saturate; you are simply spraying the lawn to the point of wet. Do not water after application, and keep all people and pets off the treated area until dry. For best results, a fan-spray setting is recommended.

Where to Use

TopShot Herbicide application

Martin's TopShot Herbicide Weed Killer can be used on Kentucky bluegrass, fine fescue, Bermuda grass, centipede grass, zoysiagrass, and St. Augustine grass. Avoid spraying other areas besides your desired space. Flower beds and trees are sensitive to TopShot.

When to Use

Apply Martin's TopShot Herbicide Weed Killer in spring, summer, fall, or any time weeds are actively growing. Apply on calm days when wind speeds are low and rain is not in the immediate forecast.

Safety Information

When used according to the label, Martin's TopShot Herbicide Weed Killer is safe to use around humans and pets once dry. Always wear the proper PPE when mixing and applying the herbicide product.

Special Considerations

Do not apply this product when temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit - this could cause burns on your grass. Be careful when treating areas around the base of trees. If there is a nick or cut on the tree from a weed-eater or similar lawn tool, the tree could become sick.

Does not harm St. Augustine Floratam Grass
Top Shot is extremely effective at killing weeds and not the lawn. It works quickly too, so you will know within a couple of days as the weeds begin to get spotted and change color as they begin to die off.

It really works!
My husband or son used to take care of the lawn. This year I was on my own. We have Centipede grass that was full of dollar weed, dandelion and other tall weeds. Top Shot got rid of all the weeds. It was easy to use, and costs much less then all the other stuff.

Works!
TopShot does exactly what should do, it kills weeds. The process takes about a week to kill the weeds. The kill is complete in about two weeks but it seems to kill all of the weeds. I had a massive clover problem and TopShot worked great at killing the clover. Will use the product again. Seems pricey for such a small vial of product but that small vial does the job, in a long run that makes it a bargain.
