Bifen LP Granules
Bifen LP Granules
Bifen LP Granules, manufactured by Control Solutions Inc., is a Bifenthrin-based pesticide granules labeled to kill and control a wide range of common insect pests, such as fire ants, cockroaches, spiders, fleas, ticks, crickets, and more pests that commonly invade lawns and gardens.
These granuels are uniquely formulated with sand as a carrier and is especially recommended for eliminating ants (including fire ants), fleas, and chinch bugs that can harm lawns. The "LP" in Bifen LP stands for "lawn and perimeter", making it ideal for applications to large turf areas and lawns, around the perimeter of structures, and even direct applications to fire ant mounds. Once applied this product treats grubs in lawns as well as ants within 24 hours of application.
Bifen LP Granules do not deliver a quick knockdown, but the residual effect can last for up to 3 months for effective, long-term results. Bifen LP is easy to apply, has no odor, and is safe for children, pets, and non-target animals. Bifen LP compares to Talstar PL with the same active ingredient and label, but at a more economical price.
Tools Needed
To properly apply Bifen LP Granules, a push spreader or hand spreader is required. We recommend using a push spreader for broadcast applications and a hand spreader for small, localized applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Before making an application of Bifen LP, find the square footage of your yard by measuring the area's length and width, then multiplying those numbers together (length x width = square footage). This will determine how much Bifen LP you will need to apply. The application rate for Bifen LP is between 1.15 and 4.6 pounds per 1,000 square feet. We recommend using 2.3 pounds of Bifen LP, but you can increase the amount for heavier infestations. For example, if your yard was 2,000 square feet, you would need 4.6 pounds of Bifen LP.
Step 2: Once you have determined how much Bifen LP you need, pour the measured amount into your spreader. The granules are small and resemble sand; be sure to calibrate your spreader to the lowest setting to avoid excess application. - Step 3: Walk at a steady pace to evenly distribute Bifen LP granules. After making a complete application, water the treated areas to activate the granules and help the Bifen granules penetrate the soil. For perimeter barrier applications, apply Bifen LP around the exterior of the structure in a 5-10 foot band. For fire ant mound treatment, sprinkle 0.5 cup of Bifen LP Granules per mound, and then drench the mound with 1 to 2 gallons of water to push the insecticide granules down into the ant tunnels. Bifen LP has results lasting up to three months. You can reapply as needed, as long as no more than 200 pounds of Bifen LP is used per year.
Where to Use
Bifen LP Granules can be applied to lawns and flower gardens, flower beds, around or along perimeters and foundations of houses and other structures, around mulch beds, along fence lines, and around decks.
The Bifenthrin granules can also be applied to other areas such as institutional, public, commercial and industrial buildings, parks, recreational areas, and athletic fields.
When to Use
Bifen LP Granules can be applied when treating for targeted insects on turfs, lawns, or flowerbeds and around the perimeter of foundations. It can also be used as a spot treatment when ant mounds are developing.
Do not apply during windy weather or 24 hours before heavy rains, as this can cause the granules to drift away while making applications or wash away after applications. If rains or floods have occurred after treatments another application can be made.
For most effective results against pests like fire ants, apply Bifen LP Granules on cool days when temperatures are between 65 to 80 degrees F, or in early morning or late evening hours.
Safety Information
Bifen LP Granules are safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when making applications.
This product is toxic to aquatic organisms. Do not apply Bifen LP near bodies of water, or when rain is expected in the next 24 hours.
If any product lands on a driveway, sidewalk, or street, sweep it back onto the treated area to prevent runoff to bodies of water or drainage systems.
Special Considerations
Over time, insects can become resistant to bifenthrin, the active ingredient in Bifen LP. Bifen LP Granules should not be applied on golf courses or other turfs and lawns that have hills or ground areas where the granules will wash away during rains or irrigation practices.
