Barricade Pre-Emergent Herbicide Prodiamine Granular
Barricade Pre-Emergent Herbicide Prodiamine Granular
Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide with Prodiamine, manufactured by Nitro-phos, is a professional pre-emergent herbicide that controls a broad-range of weeds and easily prevents unwanted foliage all season long. This granule pre-emergent herbicide contains prodiamine 0.58%, which stunts the growth of grassy and broadleaf weeds in established turfgrass, gardens, flowerbeds and many other non-crop growing areas.
This easy to use granule product works by preventing root growth and seed germination of target weeds. When applied, it will leave a barrier in the soil that will stop weeds from sprouting for effective pre-emergent weed control. Barricade Pre-Emergence Herbicide can be used in spring and fall to help you keep weed-free lawn throughout the year.
Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide is a pre-emergent herbicide designed with small granule particles designed to readily break upon contact with water, providing superior performance and more coverage of treatment areas.
Tools Needed
To use Barricade Granular Pre-Emergence Herbicide, you will need either a rotary, drop, or hand spreader designed for use with fertilizers and granulated herbicides. We recommend using a push broadcast spreader for best results and larger treatment areas. Hand spreaders work well for small or ornamental bed applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Barricade Granular Pre-Emergence Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. You can do this by measuring the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). Depending on your turf species, you may be using anywhere from 1.5 to 4 pounds of Barricade Granular Pre-Emergence Herbicide per 1,000 sq. ft. For landscape ornamentals, the application rate will be between 2.5 and 5.94 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. feet. For example, if you have perennial ryegrass on a 3,000 sq. ft. lawn, and the labeled rate for your turf is 2 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft., you will need to load 6 lbs. of Barricade into your spreader to cover your entire yard.
- Step 2: Now that you have determined how much Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide you will need, calibrate your spreader to the right spreader setting for application and load the appropriate amount of granules into the spreader. This product label states spreader settings for various spreader types. If your spreader is not listed, you can set the spreader to the low to mid range for even distribution.
- Step 3: Broadcast the Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide uniformly using your spreader type. You may need to conduct 2 perpendicular passes to get uniform coverage. If any granules land on your driveway, sidewalk, or street, sweep the product back onto your lawn. Activate the granules by watering your lawn with at least 0.5 inches of water for best results.
Where to Use
Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide can be used on established residential and commercial lawns and ornamental turf, landscape ornamentals, and established perennials and wildflower plantings.
Do not apply to golf course putting greens, or areas where dichondra, colonial bentgrass, velvet bentgrass, or annual bluegrass (Poa annua) are desirable species. Not for use on plants being grown for sale or other commercial use, for commercial seed production, or for research purposes.
When to Use
Timing is key when applying pre-emergent products. If the weeds are already established, the product will not work. The best time to apply pre-emergent herbicides like Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent Herbicide is in both spring and fall.
Apply only to actively growing turf. Do not apply if heavy rain is expected.
This product will inhibit germination of turf seed if overseeded too soon after application. Do not apply to overseeded turf within 60 days after seeding or until after the second mowing, whichever is longer.
Safety Information
Barricade Pre-Emergence Herbicide is safe to use around pets and children when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product.
Keep children and pets off the treated area until product has dried. Do not graze or feed livestock forage cut from treated areas.
Do not apply near water, storm drains, or drainage ditches.
Special Considerations
Barricade Pre-Emergence Herbicide will not kill established weeds. For that, you will need to use a post-emergent herbicide. Applying Barricade may thin emerged annual bluegrass and newly overseeded grasses, so make sure to wait at least 60 days after seeding to apply the product. Avoid cultural practices such as core aeration, as this will disturb the herbicide barrier and lead to reduced weed control.
When plants are under stress (such as heat, drought, or frost damage) some cultivars of listed plants may be sensitive to this product.
