Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper
01/19/26
Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper, manufactured by VPG, is an effective and ready-to-use granular herbicide that mainly targets crabgrass but also suppresses grass and broadleaf weeds such as spurge.
This product contains the pre-emergent herbicide dithiopyr 0.125%, also known as dimension, which helps to disrupt root growth and cells needed for plant growth in weeds. However, post-emergence control is limited to crabgrass only and will only eliminate crabgrass within 4 weeks of germination.
Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper can be used as a preventative treatment for grass and broadleaf weeds before germination within cool-seasoned and warm-seasoned turf.
Tools Needed
You will need a push or broadcast spreader to spread the granules. The calibration rate of your selected spreader is listed on the product label.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper you need by mesauring the treatment area's square footage. You will need to measure the treatment site's length and width in feet and multiply them together (length X width = square footage). To find acreage, divide the square footage by one acre (square footage / 43,560 = acreage). The application rate of this product is 2.4 to 9.2 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. in cool-seasoned lawns. For warm-seasoned grasses, apply 3.5 to 9.2 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. Both of these turf types cannot exceed 9.2 lbs. of Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper per 1,000 sq. ft. and no more than 27.6 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. per year (equivalent to 0.5 and 1.5 lb. of active ingredient per acre).
- Step 2: Load your selected spreader with the appropriate amount of Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper and set it to the correct setting for your spreader model (refer to the label for more details). When applying your product, start by walking a straight line around the perimeter of your treatment area and then towards the middle until you have complete coverage.
- Step 3: After application, irrigation your treatment area with 0.5 inches of water to ensure the granular product activates and avoid foliar damage to ornamentals.
Where to Use
Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper can be used on established cool-seasoned or warm-seasoned lawns, ornamental turfgrasses, and ornamental landscape areas.

Warm-seasoned grasses: Bahiagrass, Bermudagrass, Buffalograss, Carpetgrass, Centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, Zoysiagrass.
Do not apply the Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper directly to the bare roots of ornamental plants or into soil as injury may occur.
When to Use

Apply this product during calm weather when rain is not predicted for the next 24 hours to ensure the product is not blown or washed away from the treatment area.
Safety Information
Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of the treatment for 48 hours after application.
Special Considerations
If the Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper is applied in the fall, do not reseed, overseed, or sprig turfgrasses within 12 weeks after application.
Applications to New York and Florida are limited and should be followed as listed on the label. For Florida applications, do not exceed 4 applications per year on bermudagrass in central Florida. Do not apply more than 9.2 lb. of this product per 1,000 sq. ft. per application and no more than 27.6 lb. of this product/1000 sq. ft. per year (equivalent to 0.5 and 1.5 lb. of active ingredient per acre, respectively).
For New York, do not exceed 4.6 lb. per 1,000 sq. ft. per year of this product (equivalent to 0.25 lb. of active ingredient per acre). In the state of New York, this product may be applied at a minimum of 2.4 lb. per 1,000 sq. ft. per year (equivalent to 0.128 lb. active ingredient per acre).
Use of this product on lawns and ornamental plants that are not well-established or weakened by stress or moisture may result in turfgrass injury.
