This product is only to be applied underground either manually, or through the use of an underground gopher bait applicators, the Kaput-D Big Boy Gopher Bait Applicator (which you can buy here), works excellently alongside this product and ensures that bait is never placed above ground and away from children, pets, and non-targeted wildlife.

Before beginning your pocket gopher hunt remember to first identify freshly dug mounds as pocket gopher mounds. Gopher mounds are different from mole mounds in that they are kidney or horseshoe-shaped and do not have surface trails close to them, instead, gopher mounds have deep underground lateral tunnels.

These gopher mounds will be plugged with dirt to keep predators out, and often times the plug will be visible.

Once you have located and identified a gopher mound you’ll want to find the active tunnel underneath. To do this you must use a long metal probe or thin broomstick hard enough to penetrate the soil. Standing in front of the soil mound and its plug, you’ll want to back up 6 to 10 inches and start probing the ground around you with the metal probe.

You’ll know you have hit the tunnel when the soil resistance beneath the area where you probe gives off, and your metal probe sinks deep underground, deeper than all the areas where you have previously probed. When the metal probe is deep in the ground you have found the tunnel.

Once the gopher tunnel close to the mound has been found then you can apply the gopher bait.

You can apply this product in two ways.

First, you can use a gopher bait applicator like the Kaput-D Big Boy Gopher Bait Applicator (which you can buy here), to easily penetrate the gopher tunnel with the applicator and apply the bait underground by turning the handle found on the applicator. You should apply at a rate of no more than one pound per 1-8 acres. Make sure to not spill any bait above ground.

You can also apply this bait manually; to do this once the tunnel has been found by proving with a metal rod, you’ll want to pry open a small opening that leads to the tunnel. Once the opening has been made, apply at a rate of one teaspoon per burrow system, using a long hand-held utensil if necessary.  Make sure no dirt covers up the bait after application. Cover the opening with grass or topsoil or, similar made materials making sure no light enters the tunnel and no dirt covers up the bait. One pound of bait should treat 1 to 8 acres, depending upon the number of burrow systems.

TIP: You can make multiple applications in all the mounds that have formed in your lawn for greater effectiveness.

Remember to wash utensils used for manual application with detergent and hot water, and never used them again for mixing, holding, or transporting food or feed.

CONCLUSION

This is the best gopher bait in the market.

With an incredible killing power that takes effect within a few hours, you can say goodbye to your gopher problem for good, in less than a day.

It has an incredible yield that can treat up to 1 to 8 acres with just one pound, and can be easily applied with an underground applicator.

Is this an organic product?
Michael D on Aug 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Strychnine is a poisonous molecule from plants. As is the case with many substances from nature, the plants’ poisonous properties were known for centuries, long before chemists uncovered any active ingredients. Strychnine itself was discovered in 1818. Chemists classify strychnine as an alkaloid, a nitrogen-atom containing, naturally occurring compound. That puts strychnine in the same group as morphine, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, and other molecules too numerous to mention.
can this be use to kill moles?
Marks on Jan 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: As far as I know, yes. I use it for gophers and ground squirrels. My advice would be to walk or flatten the runs and find the active ones that reapear. They are good at smelling so use rubber gloves. Pen a hole and deposet about a tablespoon. Cover the hole. Do not put the dirt back. Do this in several places. You do not want pets to get this stuff. It is very good at what it is for. I like it.
Do gophers usually die in or out of the tunnel?
Sharon I on Aug 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have found a mixed blend. So far I have only found 5 corpses of striped gophers on my farm. I surmise that some crawl out of the hole and die there. Others just die down there hole. I know this much; I had about 25 to 30 striped gophers and for the past 3 weeks I have seen none and found none. Believe me, I have been hunting for the little bastards. I should remind you that the reason I only found 5 bodies is because I also have a pair of coyote's and a weasel running around. They might be eating the dead gophers. Yes, the coyote's and weasel are doing just fine.
Is this poisonous to me?
A shopper on Dec 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would assume this is extremely poisonous to all mammals, at least. You should read the label carefully in that regard. Therefore, it is probably very poisonous for any dogs or livestock that you may have as well. When I use this product, I never leave it out or leave it exposed on top of the ground. I only use it in underground gopher holes.
Can it be used safely in orchards?
A shopper on Dec 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, this will not contaminate any fruit on trees, as this product is not systemic and will not be absorbed into the plants.
Does this product work for ground squirrels also?
A shopper on Sep 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That is exactly what I use it for. But you must make sure that a teaspoon of it gets well down in the hole and then put something over the hole. Otherwise you're ground Birds will get access to it. I don't want my Quail getting it. This is bad stuff. And it does a good job.
Will it work on mouse?
A shopper on Jan 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is not labeled for controlling mice only Gophers, we have Mouse Bait that will attract them and work much better. https://www.solutionsstores.com/eratication-rodent-bait
will it work with Lewis Tools Gopher Bait Applicator?
Rolf M on Oct 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't know, but it works in my applicator, which has a "door" at the end which is about 1/2 inch high and 1/4 inch wide when open. The bait grains are the size of rice
Where do the gophers usually die?
Sharon I on Aug 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: pretty easy answer , I use a tool to place the bait into the gopher burrow and I have probably terminated a 15 to 20 gophers without ever seeing a gopher. They die in the burrow , this prevent gophers from causing problems with other wildlife or pets although I do have concerns about dogs that might smell and dig up the dead gopher.
Does the produce have something that attracts gophers to eat the it?
A shopper on Jun 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Seems to attract. They are tearing up your lawn and you carefully put this in the tunnel being sure to not get dirt in with it and you never see them again.
Will it work on ground hogs?
Mike D on May 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will it's the same family of animals I used it and never seen one again
I live in Goodyear Arizona. What store can I purchase this product from?
Mobabi on Jan 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Mobabi -
I live in El Cajon, CA which has similar though a little cooler weather patterns than Goodyear AZ. I purchased my Gopher Bait 50 from Solutions Pest and Lawn last year On Line, and it has really helped cut down my gopher population infestation! The key is the strychnine. Other chemical baits are not as effective. I highly recommend you go with Solutions for your gopher problems!

Mike Briggs - El Cajon CA
i live in houston area and have several moles in our back yard that tunnel under the grass. have tried the gooey "sweeny" worms but not effective yet. has your product been used for moles??
A shopper on May 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I’m still killing these damn pocket gophers with this. Seems like I knock down the mound activity, then they come back I; a few m9the later from the neighbors yard. I think any grain covered with strychnine would kill moles.
I have kangaroo mice (different from a kangaroo rat) They are found here in SE AZ. The castings from their tunneling is just messy. I am not sure that the Gopher Snake applicator will go down the tunnel and I'm not sure how extensive their tunneling is. I would appreciate any feedback on success with this product with kangaroo mice as well as with the applicator? I think their diet here is mostly seeds and mesquite pods. Thanks

Gopher Bait 50 Strychnine
Gopher Bait Applicator Gopher Snake
Gopher Bait Applicator Gopher Snake
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this is effective for these critters. We live in the same general area of AZ. We find the holes to their tunnels with their mounds of dirt and put a teaspoon to a tablespoon down inside their hole. This product is seed laced with arsenic. Very effective. They love the seed, and it will kill them. HOWEVER, A WORD OF CAUTION. You must be very careful to get all the seed down inside the hole/tunnel. Birds love the seed also, and I don't know what it would do to small household pets. Definitely could not be good for them. We accidentally killed one quail because we did not get all the seeds down inside the hole, and it got some. This is strong stuff, but very good.
Can I just place it at the tunnel entrance?
Mike D on May 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Needs to go down into the tunnel. If placed at top of tunnel any kind of animal can eat it~~and die. Put as far down in tunnel that you can and cover the top of tunnel so it does not show.
Is Gopher Bait 50 biodegradable? In other words once placed in the ground will it eventually decompose and lose its potency? It there a possibility of this product getting into ground water?

If this product accidentally spilled on the ground can it be neutralized with some bleach or some other product?
Charlie on Jul 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Only need half teaspoon per tunnel. It would take huge quantity to contaminate ground water. Will loose potency when it gets wet. If spilled above ground scoop up bb size pellets with dirt and dispose in plastic bag. I eliminated 15 gophers in one day last spring.
how long does it take to dissolve gopher bait in the ground so it is no longer harmful to pets?
A shopper on Jun 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No idea. I place it with applicator tool well into the Gopher tunnel. I only put a very small amount 1/4 teaspoon. It’s very potent. This way hopefully the gopher eats the entire amount of bait and there is no left overs. I have never dug it up to see what’s left.
Will this work for voles?
A shopper on Jun 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This product is not labeled for use on voles, you will want to purchase Kaput Vole Bait.

https://www.solutionsstores.com/kaput-rat-mouse-vole-bait-place-packs
How do you apply it?
Wesley R on May 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Look up gopher bait applicator online and you will get a variety of tools. I use one that punches a hole in the tunnel. Flip a little handle and it applies a nominal amount of pellets in the tunnel for them to feed on. VERY EASY to use without a doubt.
We have a neighbor who just spread it all over his lawn. What can we do?
94558 on May 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Enter an answer to this questionNotify local environmental authorities because the product is labeled for sub-soil application only; failure to follow labeling instructions is a violation of law and a serious threat to wildlife.
Can this be purchased by customers in Ca ?
A shopper on May 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We are in Ca. And have been ordering it for several years
Will this work on armidellos also?
Help please on Mar 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, the Gopher Bait 50 will not work on Armadillo's, the best way to control that pest is to control what they are eating.

Good grub control will prevent them from rooting around for a food source. https://www.solutionsstores.com/bifen-it-insecticide
Can I use this in a vegetable garden?
Linda L on Jan 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would be afraid that the poison would get in my soil,i use garlic plants around mine. they hate the smell. Gopher bait works great! keep away from you pets! clip your garlic plant and throw the clippings in your garden . I would use the poisonon the outskirts. I have no more ghophers or squirrels!
Can I use this for woodpeckers?
Regina W on Nov 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but other birds will get it also. I have same problem. Have not figured out how to deal with those pesky things. If you are not worried about the other Birds go ahead and put it in the feeder
How can I put this under my house to kill them? They have come inside the house and run straight in some holes/ cracks under kitchen cabinets. Also, I can see them at night running/climbing under my deck at night. PLEASE help me!!
Niecee on Sep 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would not recommend that you put this in your house or perhaps even under it. Strychnine is extremely potent stuff, and has immediate action. If they're running in your house, they're most likely not gophers, but rather, either rats or perhaps voles. For those, I would suggest electronic traps. Way easy, extremely effective. If they're getting in your house, they could carry the strychnine with them: not good!
Will it kill groundhogs?
A shopper on Sep 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It will kill anything that will eat it. Be sure to put it under the ground.
Will it kill nearby trees?
Earlene M on Jul 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I did not have any issues with nearby trees. I don’t believe the active Ingredients will affect plants at low concentrations.
Does Home Depot or Walmart sell this product?
A shopper on May 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Most Likely not. ACE Hardware in Tucson used to but stopped. That's why I ordered here. Probably varies with state/county regulations too. Strychnine is hazardous and deadly if not used properly.
How much Strychnine is in a teaspoon of Gopher Bait 50?
Pete R on May 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: According to the MSDS sheet, available by download from the Solutions web site, Gopher
Bait 50 is 0.50% by weight. Weigh one teaspoon of bait with a good scale and multiply by 0.005. For a more accurate result you could weigh a larger amount (say one or more table spoons) and get a more reliable measure of the weight of one typical teaspoon of this granular material.
Will this kill moles?
A shopper on Mar 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Gopher Bait 50 is not labeled for control of moles, they have different food sources.

I would recommend using Talpirid Mole Worms.
