Celsius WG Herbicide, manufactured by Bayer, is a professional quality herbicide designed for the post-emergent control on warm-season grasses like St. Augustine and has some residual activity to prevent certain weeds from germinating.

This easy to use herbicide comes in the form of water-dispersible granules that must be thoroughly and uniformly mixed in water and applied as a spray. Each pack covers up to 2,000 sq. ft. at the highest rate of application while also delivering lower phytotoxicity in areas with high temperatures.

Celsius WG Herbicide provides broad-spectrum control of grassy weeds like crabgrass with up to 3 active ingredients helping to cease weed growth within hours of application.

Tools Needed

To use Celsius WG Herbicide, you will need to mix the product in a backpack sprayer or hand-can.

How to Use

Adding Celsius WG in a measured cup

  • Step 1: Determine how much Celsius WG Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For spot treatments, mix 0.057 to 0.113 oz. (1.6-3.2 g) of Celsius WG Herbicide per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Do not apply more than a total of 7.4 oz (210 g) of product per acre (0.17 oz or 4.8 g of product per 1,000 sq. ft.) per year (365 days).
  • Step 2: Fill your sprayer tank with half the amount of water, then add the appropriate amount of Celsius WG Herbicide, then fill the tank the rest of the way with remaining half of water. Shake up the sprayer tank until the solution is well-mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray the target weed with the Celsius WG Herbicide mixture, making sure to get even coverage via fan spray setting. Check back after 2 to 4 weeks and if weeds are still present then perform a second application. Do not mow immediately after treating with this product or before spray has dried. After treatment, do not transfer clippings to non-target areas. For best results, do not irrigate until spray has dried.

Where to Use

Use Celsius WG Herbicide on warm-season turf on residential and commercial lawns or commercial properties such as sod farms, sports fields, parks, campsites, recreational areas, roadsides, school grounds, cemeteries, and golf courses (minus golf course greens and collars).

Do not use this product on bahiagrass or cool-season turf types, including tall fescue, fine fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, or creeping bentgrass.

When to Use

Spray Celsius WG Herbicide when turf is established or 4 weeks have passed for newly established turfgrasses. Weed control is more rapid when soil temperatures are above 65 degrees, when soil moisture is adequate for weed growth, and when weeds are not under environmental stress (e.g. drought).

Safety Information

Celsius WG Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated areas until sprays have dried.

Special Considerations

It is advised not to use a surfactant during spot treatment on St. Augustine grasses because of the risk of damage it can cause to the turf.

This is a great alternative to msma since we are no longer able to use that for summer weed's. I've had very good results with the Celsius for control of summer weed's in the south

One of the best weed killers for Bermuda grass lawns
I love this stuff!!! One of the best weed killers for Bermuda lawns I have used. This will kill 90-95% of the weeds in your lawn and has no temperature restrictions and actually works better the hotter it is outside. Don’t expect a quick kill with this as it usually takes 1-3 weeks to totally kill off the weed and a little goes a LONG way.

I bought this as I was running low on my original bottle which was about 8 years old and it still worked just fine.

I bought Celsius WG to rid my yard of “Florida Snow” (Richardia Scabra). Once this weed becomes apparent, your grass is long gone. The Celsius WG killed the weed without harming my St Augustine grass. It takes a few applications but my grass ( I’m on an acre) has started to thrive. Every yard around my house has this weed and it is constantly spreading to my yard. I keep Celsius on hand to fight the new infestations. I highly recommend Celsius WG to battle Florida Snow.

Homeowners can handle lawn weeds!!
I researched what to use on St. Augustine. Celsius kept coming up but there seemed to be uncertainty if individuals could purchase. Thank you for selling and shipping! I read all the instructions and have had great success in my Dallas lawn. Thank you very much for your follow up.

Be CAREFULL Not to Overdose
Worked good in some areas of St Augustine lawn, but did harm to the St Augustine in other areas, probably due to overdosing. This resulted in more weeds that I started with due to bare spots that developed. Be careful not to overdose this herbicide in the warm/hot weather! Give it plenty of time to work before attempting a second application.

Great Crab grass killer
Work as described. Best used at recommended temps. Started at low dosage to see how the St. Augustine would react, crab grass started to show decline in a week and was dead three weeks later.

Impressed I am!
First use, highest concentration. Put a hurt on Virginia Buttonweed; a second dose to be applied this weekend. Put a hurt on my Paspalum -- nothing has ever done that except Roundup. Too soon to say it was fatal; may require a second application. Put a hurt on my sparse Bahia; may require a second hit, but still impressive. Various other "weak" weeds were dead within 10 days. Apparently not super fast acting, which helps with Safety. I have Zoysia, St. Augustine and Bermuda; some minor yellowing of St. Augustine and Zoysia so I recently applied Ironite to help recovery. Second application will determine effectiveness on Va Buttonweed, but so far I am optimistic. Temps are in the low 90's and no ill affects.

  7. Q:Will this work on carpet grass (arthracon hispidus)? And will it kill everything, or just targeted weeds. I am trying to regain parts of my hay field that is being taken over by the carpet grass.
    8/8/22
A:Celsius WG Herbicide will eliminate carpetgrass and does offer a selective form of control, meaning it will only eliminate labeled weeds. However, it does state on the product label "The directions for use of this product are believed to be adequate and must be followed carefully. However, it is impossible to eliminate all risks associated with the use of this product. Turf injury, ineffectiveness or other unintended consequences may result because of such factors as weather conditions, presence of other materials, or the manner of use or application."

  9. Q:What is the difference between Celsius WG & Celsius Fahrenheit? Why is WG twice as expensive per ounce?
    7/14/22
A:Never heard of a herbicide called Celsius Fahrenheit. It's probably a knockoff. Personally, I would buy the WG.

  10. Q:I applied 1 ounce per gallon instead of .1 ounce to my bermuda lawn. Will that damage the bermuda sod?
    7/7/22
A:If you are referring to Celsius WG Herbicide, the maximum application rate is 0.17 oz. or 4.8 g of product per 1,000 sq. ft. per year so there could be risk to turf, ineffectiveness or other unintended consequences.
