Bifen XTS, manufactured by Control Solutions, is a bifenthrin emulsifiable concentrate insecticide that is designed to control termites and a variety of other insects. This product kill insects instantly and leaves a residual barrier for up to 90 days.

This easy to use insecticide can be used by DIY homeowners with a hand-held pump sprayer to reach cracks and crevices and to treat smaller sized areas. Professionals can also benefit from using Bifen XTS via skid sprayer to cover large areas or as a trench treatment for killing termites.

Bifen XTS kills many types of insects and can be sprayed in most outdoor areas, even on trees. It is a great versatile product to have when treating wood or lawn destroying pests.

Tools Needed

To spray Bifen XTS, a backpack sprayer, a hose-end sprayer, hand-held pump sprayer or skid sprayer is needed. When using Bifen XTS as a perimeter trenching treatment, a shovel or trenching hoe, and wheelbarrow or bucket is needed. For other treatment methods such as rodding or sub-slab injections, a drill, masonry bit and rods are needed.

For cracks and crevice treatments, we recommend using the backpack sprayer or hand-held pump sprayer. When large volumes need to be treated, we suggest a skid sprayer.

How to Use

Where to spray Bifen XTS

  • Step 1: Determine how much Bifen XTS Insecticide you will need by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). For subterranean termite control, localized areas in structures against wood infesting insects, and perimeter treatment against other pests, use a 0.06% dilution. To prepare a 0.06% water dilution, ready to use, dilute 1 quart of Bifen XTS with 99.75 gallons of water. For broadcast treatments on lawns, use 0.07 to 0.30 fl. oz. of Bifen XTS per 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For ornamentals and trees, dilute 0.26 to 1.28 fl. oz. of Bifen XTS per 10 gallons of water and apply at the rate of 10 gallons per 4,356 square feet. One gallon of finish spray will treat 435 sq. ft.
  • Step 2: In a sprayer, add half of the required amount of water, then the required amount of Bifen XTS, and pour remaining half of water into the spray tank. Close the lid and shake until solution is evenly mixed. If using to treat termites by trenching, trench and dig up dirt and place in a wheelbarrow. Add the rest of the required amount of water to the spray tank and agitate (for skid sprayers) or mix well. For trenching, treat the soil with 4 gallons of diluted solution per 10 linear feet per foot of depth of the trench or 1 gallon per 1.0 cubic feet and then place the dirt back over the trench after the solution has been soaked in.
  • Step 3: Apply the mixed solution of Bifen XTS to the top and bottom of grass and ornamental leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Water treated areas with 0.25 to 0.5 inches of water immediately following application taking special care to prevent run-off or puddling. To ensure the best control of armyworms, cutworms, and sodworms postpone watering or mowing 24 hours after application. To perform a perimeter treatment, you will need to spray 3 feet up the structure and 10 foot wide band out on the soil and vegetation around and next to the structure. To control bees, wasps, hornets, and yellow-jackets spray the mixed solution late in the evening or when insects are at rest. Direct the spray at nest openings in the ground, bushes, and in cracks and crevices, where the insects may nest. Saturate the openings and contact as many insects as possible. Re-apply as needed quarterly (every three months) for continued control.

Where to Use

When used against termites, apply Bifen XTS to critical areas where points in the foundation is penetrated or abuts such as bath traps, plumbing, cracks and expansion joints, utility entry points, and adjacent structures such as patios, slab additions, stairs, inside of foundation walls, and other features that will penetrate the slab. It may also be used for post-construction treatment against termites to foundations, slabs, basements, accessible or inaccessible crawl spaces, masonry voids, and troublesome areas (e.g., beside fieldstone or rubble walls, beside faulty foundation walls, and around pipes and utility lines leading downward from the structure to a well or pond).

This product may also be applied to underground services (cables, conduits, pipes, utility lines, wires, etc.) may be in right-of-ways, inside of structures or to guard long range (miles) of installations of services. Around or in posts, poles, other constructions, trees, and wooden constructions (signs, fences, and landscape ornamentation) as an insecticidal barrier.

Bifen XTS can also be sprayed on trees, shrubs, foliage plants, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, and flowers in interiorscapes including hotels, shopping malls, office buildings, etc. and, outdoor plantscapes, including around residential dwellings, parks, institutional, recreational, athletic fields, and home lawns.

Other than applications to building foundations, all outdoor applications to impervious surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, patios, porches, and structural surfaces (such as windows, doors, and eaves) are limited to spot and crack and-crevice applications, only.

Do not use this product in greenhouses or nurseries. This product cannot be used in food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments, restaurants or other areas where food/feed is commercially prepared or processed. Do not use in serving areas while food is exposed or facility is in operation.

When to Use

Bifen XTS should be used to control termites before construction, however, it can also be used to treat soil around the perimeter of homes or building structures after termites are detected. It should also be applied when you first observe other insect activity or as a preventative treatment against other labeled pest.

This product will need to be applied in calm weather when rain is not predicted for the next 24 hours to help ensure that wind or rain does not blow or wash the pesticide off the treatment area.

Do not apply Bifen XTS when the ground is saturated or frozen and do not make applications when it is raining.

Safety Information

Bifen XTS is safe to use around pets and children when applied according to the product label. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Keep children and pets off treated areas following application until the spray has dried.

Special Considerations

When treating behind veneer structures (walls, etc.) with Bifen XTS, take proper care to not drill beyond the veneer. If concrete blocks exist behind the veneer, both can be drilled and treated simultaneously. Not for use in voids insulated with rigid foam insulation.

When treating plenums and crawl spaces, turn off the air circulation systems of the structure until application has been completed and all termiticide has been absorbed by the soil.

I've been using Bifen for over 5 years with very good results. Previous to this I was using granules with poor to no results at a much higher cost. I will continue to buy more. Good product -- good price.
