Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide, manufactured by Alligare, eliminates unwanted vegetation from various types of land. This product is a pellet formulation and works as a pre-emergent and post-emergent on many types of trees, shrubs, and vines to keep land from being taken over.
This product is applied to the ground where the pellets are activated by rainfall to penetrate the soil. It then works to kill seedlings and the root system to prevent further growth.
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide provides control from woody vegetation for up to 1 year. It is ideal for use on rangelands, pastures, and other land spaces where wooded plants can ruin habitats and grasslands.
Tools Needed
To apply Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide, a ground spreader or aerial application equipment is needed. For spot treatments, it can be applied by hand.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Tebuthiuron 20P you will need by calculating the square footage or acreage of the area you wish to treat. You can do this by measuring and multiplying the area length and width together (length x width = square footage). To calculate acreage, take the square footage and divide by 43,560. On non-croplands, Tebuthiuron is applied at a rate of 3/8 oz. to 1 1/8th oz. per 100 sq. ft. or the equivalent broadcast rate of 10 to 30 pounds per acre. For example, if you have measured a 3,000 sq. ft. treatment area and are using the 3/8 oz. rate, you would need 11.25 ounces of Tebuthiuron to cover your entire area.
- Step 2: In a spreader, pour the correct amount of Tebuthiuron based on your target weed you wish to treat and the area being treated.
- Step 3: Spread the Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide evenly across the land. Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide can be applied by hand around Individual plants or small areas of woody vegetation. For areas that receive less than 20 inches of rainfall per year will only need 5 pounds of product per acre.
Where to Use
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide is used on rangelands, non-cropland areas, along fence lines, rights-of-way, permanent grass pastures and areas around wildlife habitats that need clearing.
When to Use
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide can be applied anytime during the year, unless the ground is frozen or completely saturated with water. For the best results, Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide should be applied before active growth in the spring or before seasonal rains. Areas that receive more than 25 inches of yearly rainfall, higher applications should be made during late summer and fall. To prevent the effects from damaging wanted grasses, it is suggested to make applications during dormant season.
Safety Information
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide is safe to use when applied according to label directions. It is not to be used on residential areas. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment when making applications with Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide. Do not feed treated hay to livestock for 1 year.
Special Considerations
Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide is a strong product that will kill vegetation to the bare ground. It will also kill other surround non-targeted plants. Do not apply more than 10 pounds of Tebuthiuron 20P Herbicide per acre when the area less than 20 inches of rainfall a year.

Q:I purchased a 25lbs bag of spike 20p from my local farm store and I was wondering since it is in granulate form could it be mixed in a 2 gallon sprayer with water or do you have to put it in a spreader an spread the granulates out in the area7/26/16A:Product Information Alligare Tebuthiuron 20 P is a surface applied, soil-active product intended for control of woody plants (trees, shrubs and vines). Treatments become effective after sufficient rainfall has occurred to move the active ingredient in Alligare Tebuthiuron 20 P into the root zone. Herbicidal symptoms appear more rapidly when applied just before seasonal rainfall. Treated trees and shrubs (brush) exhibit leaf chlorosis and browning followed by defoliation. Woody plants may undergo several defoliation cycles, usually following significant rainfall before death occurs. Time required to achieve control of woody vegetation depends on susceptibility of target species, rainfall and soil conditions and may vary from a single growing season to several years. Increased application rates and additional time is required to achieve consistent woody plant control under the following conditions: 1) the treated area contains deep, medium-to-fine textured, or high organic matter soils; 2) the target species are deeprooted; or 3) the vegetation consists of species tolerant to Alligare Tebuthiuron 20 P.
