Prodiamine 65 WDG (Barricade Herbicide)
Prodiamine 65 WDG (Barricade Herbicide)
Prodiamine 65 WDG, manufactured by Quali-Pro, is a dependable pre-emergent herbicide that will control various weeds found in turfs and ornamental areas like barnyard grass, carpetweed, goosegrass, and more.
This water-dispersable granular formula works by stunting the development of seeds at the beginning of the germination phase. It will not work against sprouted weeds, but will provide residual control for pre-emergent weeds for up to 6 months.
Prodiamine 65 WDG is an easy to use pre-emergent herbicide to prevent invasive weeds from obstructing areas around railroads, job sites, utility structures, and more.
Tools Needed
To apply Prodiamine 65 WDG, you will need to mix the product in a backpack or handheld pump sprayer. For larger applications, a professional skid sprayer with a broadcast boom or handheld wand is needed.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Prodiamine 65 WDG to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For general applications, use 0.4 oz. of Prodiamine 65 WDG in 0.5 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Depending on the weed you are trying to control and turf type, the application rate will vary so it would be best to refer to the product label. Applications to container, field grown, and landscape ornamentals will use a rate of 0.37 to 0.83 oz. of product per 1,000 sq. ft.
- Step 2: Fill the spray tank 1/4 of the way with water or fluid fertilizer only and then begin the agitation process. Add the appropriate amount of Prodiamine 65 WDG to the spray tank and then add the rest of the required amount of water. To ensure you prevent wasteful overlap, we recommend also mixing in a marking dye. Agitate the sprayer repeatedly during the entire application process to ensure an efficient spray suspension.
- Step 3: Make the Prodiamine 65 WDG application to desired areas with the spray nozzle on a fan spray setting for even coverage. For established plants, apply as a broadcast, over-the-top, or direct spray. For newly transplanted plants and ornamentals, wait for the soil around the plants to settle and water thoroughly before application.
Where to Use
Prodiamine 65 WDG can be applied to established turfgrass, lawns, sod nurseries, container-grown landscape ornamentals, field-grown ornamentals, conifer and hardwood seedling nurseries. It can also be applied to rights-of-way for roads and utilities structures, railroads, and equipment yard.
Do not apply Prodiamine to putting greens on golf courses, plants that will be used as a food source, or turfs that are under poor conditions with drought, pest damage, or low fertility.
When to Use
For maximum results, apply Prodiamine 65 WDG before weeds emerge during spring and fall seasons. Prodiamine 65 WDG will not work once weeds have sprouted above the ground, applications must be made before weeds germinate. The best times to apply also depend on the targeted weeds, read the product label for specific times.
Safety Information
Prodiamine 65 WDG is safe to use around pets and children when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not allow people or pets to enter treated areas until the spray has dried.
Special Considerations
Prodiamine 65 WDG comes in the form of small gold yellowish granules. Prodiamine pre-emergent works best when treated areas receive up to 0.5 inches of water by rainfall or irrigation within 2 weeks after the application.
