Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide, manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA, is a specialty pre-emergent herbicide that controls weeds for up to six to eight months to keep landscapes, container- and field-grown nursery ornamentals weed-free, saving you time and money in just one application.

This granular product controls or suppresses more than 125 broadleaf weeds and annual grasses and can be used over the top of more than 635 labeled ornamentals.

While Snapshot 2.5 TG is a granular herbicide, the way it easily disperses into the soil gives it the feel of a liquid herbicide.

Tools Needed

To apply Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide you will need a broadcast spreader, drop spreader, hand spreader, or a push spreader.

Do not aerially apply this product. Do not use spreaders that apply material in narrow concentrated bands.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide you will need to apply by calculating the square footage of your treatment area. To do this, measure (in feet) the area length and width and multiply the two values (length x width = square footage). To find acerage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 = acre). Snapshot 2.5 TG should be applied at a rate of 2.3 to 4.6 lb per 1000 square feet, depending on weeds to be controlled. For acerage applications, use 100 to 200 lbs. of product per acre. Do not apply over 600 lbs. of product per acre per total within a 12-month period.
  • Step 2: Calibrate your spreader to the right spreader setting for application, refer to the product label for specifications. Load the measured amount of product into the spreader.
  • Step 3: Spread half the amount of Snapshot 2.5 TG granules over the treatment area while walking at an even pace. Then, apply the remaining half of product in swaths at right angles to the first application starting point. Avoid skips or overlaps as poor weed control or crop injury may occur.
  • Step 4: Water the lawn with 0.5 inches of irrigation or let rainfall activate the granules within 3 days of treatment for the best possible result. Repeat applications at 150 lb. per acre and higher should not be made until 60 days have passed after last application.

Where to Use

Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide can be used to control young broadleaf weeds and annual grasses in ornamental plantings, container and landscape ornamentals, nursery stock, Christmas trees, groundcovers/perennials, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, non-bearing vineyards and non-cropland areas.

This product is not recommended for weed control in turfgrasses, but turfgrasses are generally tolerant to small amounts of Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide that fall outside of the intended area of application.

When to Use

Snapshot 2.5G should be applied in late summer to early autumn or in early spring, prior to germination of target weeds, or immediately after cultivation.

Safety Information

Snapshot 2.5 TG is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Keep children, pets, and workers off treated areas until 12 hours have passed and treated areas are dry.

Special Considerations

Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide does not control established weeds, weeds growing from stolons, rhizomes, or root pieces. If weeds have already popped up out of the ground the product will not work and you will instead need to apply a post-emergent herbicide.

Flower bed pre-emergent
I use this product three times a year for beds containing different types of plants to block weeds from seeds (will not hurt installed plants) and it does a fairly good job. I use it because it is what was recommended by garden installer. They said they put it down 4 times a year. Three times a year seems to be adequate since it says that it last 8 months.

Highly recommended
Excellent long lasting product. Great company to buy from. I used it heavy last year but no weed problem this year so far. I am going to start sprinkling it again this week. It does not work well at all on grasses. But it did beautiful around all of my perennials. Hospice, roses, hydrangea, lillies, daylily, Iris Etc. Highly recommended

Keeps the garden weed free
Easy to use granular keeps the seeds growing for about 5-6 months here in the Northeast. Timing is important on some of the weeds. It is good to know when the weeds you are targeting start to throw off their seed.

  2. Q:Will last years snapshot still work? Had it stored in a 5 gallon bucket covered and in my shed. I live in NC
    1/17/23
A:I have used mine for several years in a row - I have not noticed a reduced effectiveness. Stored in the bag, in pole barn in Ohio.

  3. Q:My bag of snapshot got wet it started raining when I was on the way back home and it was on the back of the truck will it still work or not?
    8/6/22
A:The bag is semi-waterproof. The granules should not be too clumpy. In any case it should still work fine but if it has gotten wet just try to apply it asap, after it dries and can be applied.

  4. Q:Is snapshot safe for vegetable gardens?
    3/27/22
A:We use it in our garden aisles only, and apply it before planting flats, not seeding. If you are seeding vegetables, it might effect germination. If you are planting established plants, I would apply before planting.

  5. Q:Can it be used in a bed of Ivy?
    2/22/22
A:Unfortunately, it is unclear to which specific weed you are referring to. Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent Herbicide is labeled to treat ivyleaf morningglory.

  6. Q:Will it kill trees?
    10/10/21
A:unless there is a chemist that understands every ingredient, I don't believe so. The whole thing about this is to prevent seeds from sprouting. So if you put this in a garden bed, and then you plant seeds that you actually want, they will not sprout. Spread them in containers and then plant them
