How To Control Brownbanded Cockroaches
The brownbanded cockroach is often confused with the German cockroach since both of these cockroaches are on the smaller side compared to most but it actually can be easily distinguished by looking closely and seeing that the brownbanded cockroach as light colored irregular-looking brown bands running from one side to the other across the base of the wings and abdomen in adults, hence the reason for their name. No matter it’s appearance though, the brownbanded cockroach when invading indoors where humans reside can become a frustrating pest to see and control.
Another difference that separates it from other cockroaches like the German cockroach is that brownbanded cockroaches don’t necessarily need to be around moisture to survive and thrive. When infiltrating indoors, they are commonly found in furniture, or on the walls and ceilings as opposed to the kitchen and bathrooms which the German cockroach prefers to be around. They prefer dry and warm places and may be scattered throughout the building rather than concentrated in a particular spot.
The brownbanded cockroach prefers feeding on food that is starchy however it isn’t very picky when it comes to meals and can eat just about anything. They have been known to chew on non-food materials as nylon stockings (most likely for the residues of body oils and skin flakes). They are also known for the spread at least 33 kinds of bacteria, six kinds of parasitic worms and at least seven other kinds of human pathogens. This is usually transmitted through their droppings.

How to Get Rid of Brownbanded Cockroaches: 3 Step Solution
Brownbanded cockroaches may not be as prevalent as the German cockroach but they can be just as frustrating and damaging to have in the home. To eliminate this pest from your home, it will take patience and persistence on your end along with a combination of both chemical and non-chemical treatment methods. By following the steps we have laid out below you can get rid of brownbanded cockroaches from your home swiftly.
Step One: A thorough and detailed sanitation and exclusion conducted on your entire home is the most important step if you hope to eliminate an infestation of brownbanded cockroaches in your home. Clean your home, especially the kitchen thoroughly to make sure no crumbs, grease or oils are left behind. Regularly take out trash and vacuum. Removing water sources by keeping areas dry and fixing leaks in plumbing etc. Make sure not to restrict your sanitation to the kitchen and bathrooms because again brownbanded cockroaches don’t prefer those areas and can be scattered around the home. Be sure to also carry out exclusion practices such as sealing off cracks and crevices with caulking to keep roaches from entering into your home from outdoors.
Step Two: Once the home is sanitized and you have implemented the necessary exclusion measures you can then carry out treatment methods. We suggest using a combination of baits, sprays and dusts so if roaches are resistant to one method, they may be more responsive to a different method. Sprays should be used to create barriers and to get into hard to reach areas where roaches like to hide. Baits are also effective in that they contain attractants roaches enjoy and will take back to their harborage area and share amongst one another, ideally creating a domino effect that will kill off the whole population. Using insect growth regulators is also wise to use to eliminate any eggs that have yet to be hatched on your property
Step Three: Once the roach population has been wiped out, you should work to discourage brownbanded cockroaches from returning through preventative measures. Regularly inspect your home for roach activity and maintain a regular cleaning routine, daily, weekly and monthly to make sure the place is properly sanitized and unwelcoming to roaches. Spray the exterior perimeter of the house with an insecticide and make sure to inspect anything before bringing it into your home for roaches. Put screens on your doors and cover cracks beneath doors and any other points of entry that roaches could use to gain access into your home.
